Shanghai used to have many places that were missed because of their walls, making it difficult to explore them closely. Recently, perhaps responding to public calls, many walls have been demolished, making it easier for people to visit. Let’s see if any of these places are on your list.
1、 Shanghai Exhibition Center
Address: No. 1000, Yan’an Middle Road, Jing’an District
Recently, the Shanghai Exhibition Center not only removed its exterior walls but also made its garden landscape more exquisite. From now on, you can take a stroll here even when it’s not the Shanghai Book Fair.
Built in 1955, the Shanghai Exhibition Center, originally known as the Sino-Soviet Friendship Building, is one of Shanghai’s landmarks. The main building, along with the five-pointed star on its top, stands at 109 meters tall, once the highest point in Shanghai.
After this upgrade and renovation, not only have the existing trees and shrubs been carefully trimmed, but also many garden features have been introduced throughout the area, creating a refreshing sight.
Strolling through, the once slightly cluttered vegetation has been completely renewed, and against the backdrop of columns full of Russian classical charm, it’s like a series of oil paintings, full of artistic flair.
Compared to before, there are more terraced water features and grassy flower beds, making the Shanghai Exhibition Center not just an event venue, but also a great place to visit in your neighborhood.
In the future, the first floor space of the East Pavilion will also introduce a café. It will be wonderful to enjoy a cup of coffee, wander around the poetic garden, and appreciate the beauty of architectural art!
2、 Jing’an District Children’s Library
Address: No. 28, Kangding East Road, Jing’an District
As a landmark attraction along the Suzhou River, Butterfly Bay Park has been updated again. The Jing’an District Children’s Library used to be separated from the Butterfly Bay Station by a wall, requiring a detour. Now the short wall has been removed, making access much easier.
The main building of the Jing’an District Children’s Library is in the style of the Queen Anne Revival, resembling a castle from a fairy tale, allowing children to fall in love with reading in a dreamy atmosphere.
This wall removal, while a small update, instantly gave the Jing’an District Children’s Library thousands of square meters of garden space. Children can take a break from studying, breathe fresh air in the garden, and have fun.
3、 Jiading Museum
Address: No. 215, Bole Road, Jiading District
The entrance to the Quxiayuan Garden has recently been connected to the Jiading Museum. After admiring the Quxiayuan Garden, you can directly walk from the exit to the Jiading Museum.
Starting from the Quxiayuan Garden, which carries the history and pride of Jiading, experience the beauty of classical Jiangnan gardens, and then naturally transition to the Jiading Museum to learn about the thousand-year history of the city. This historical journey is perfect.
However, it’s worth noting that the current passage is a one-way passage from Quxiayuan Garden to Jiading Museum, allowing only exit, not entry. Therefore, please plan your time and order of visitation accordingly.
4、 Shanghai Conservatory of Music
Address: No. 20, Fenyang Road, Xuhui District
The Shanghai Conservatory of Music, located in the bustling city, has always been mysterious. Except for the teachers and students of the conservatory, few people have had the opportunity to visit it. However, the opportunity is coming soon!
The Shanghai Conservatory of Music is about to launch a comprehensive improvement project. In the future, the campus walls will be demolished and opened to the public, filling a valuable corner of the Hengfu Architectural District.
The campus of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music is not large, with 13 buildings in total. Among them, the Administration Building, the Experts Building, and the Old Library Building are all precious historical buildings, while the He Luting Concert Hall and the Conservatory Opera House are also sacred places in the hearts of teachers and students. Let’s look forward to the day when the walls are demolished and we can visit the campus and appreciate the beauty of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, allowing the melodious symphonies to sound the notes of urban exploration.
