Erenhot is known as the “Dinosaur City”. The Dinosaur Geological Park here is a major feature. Besides, there are also boundary markers and boundary monuments, which are also unique scenery of Erenhot. However, Erenhot is not only these scenic spots, but also has Zamyn-Uud, the new joint inspection building, Duke’s Mansion, etc.
This is a travelogue of Erenhot in 2012, from July 23 to July 28, six days and five nights, three people in a car, a total cost of 4,600 yuan, about 1,500 yuan per person. At that time, the houses were cheap and the food was cheap, so this money is incomparable with the present. At least the accommodation is twice as expensive, and the hotels that cost more than 100 yuan at that time are now more than 200 yuan.

Because of the road construction at that time, if you want to go now, you should drive with navigation and take the highway. There are many new highways. In fact, the highway in Inner Mongolia is not completely closed. There are many places where you can park and see the scenery for the convenience of the cattle and sheep herds. If you encounter good weather, you will have good photos. Why do you go to the grassland every year? It may be because you like the small number of people there, the cool weather, the fresh air…
Five years ago, I took more photos of the scenery. I didn’t take many photos of meals. I also benefited from my good habit of keeping a diary, otherwise I wouldn’t remember it so clearly after five years! At that time, I recorded some place names because it was fun, but I didn’t expect it to come in handy today.
The first day
Just like last time, I took the national road and county road, playing along the way. It was afternoon when I arrived at Zala Camp.
Passing by Lightning Lake, it was 1:30 pm.
Fengning, the first grassland in northern Beijing
After settling down and ordering dinner, we went for a walk on the hill east of the village. It was around 4 pm and the light was just right for taking photos.

We came out again to take photos of the sunset before dinner.

The second day
We went to the Luanhe Shenyun Scenic Area first. We felt that it was only a small place, but the entrance fee was 60 yuan. We gave up and didn’t go in. We just took a few photos at the foot of the mountain. The weather was not good.
We drove on X511 and G207. We saw a large field of sand onions with pink flowers blooming along the way. We wrote down many interesting place names along the way: Baoerhot, Heichengzi, Habijiga, Taohai Gacha, Baoshao Dai, Sanda Lai, Huiteng River, and finally reached Xilinhot and stayed at Xuri Hotel. I don’t know if this place still exists. We arrived late, had dinner and went to rest.
We encountered a beautiful bird on the way.
Scenery on the way
The third day
The two pictures above and below were taken on the way from Xilinhot to Erenhot. We only took these two pictures that day because the road was under construction and it rained heavily that day. The car could only drive on the dirt road. S101-Bielegutai, Abaga Banner, Sunite Banner, Dejistai, Dundahuobuer, Sunite Bele, Sunite Left Banner, Erenhot.
Watching the rain on the grassland, you can’t see the rain falling on the grass. You think there’s no rain. When you look back, the wipers are swishing on the car window. Then you look at the grassland, you can only see the rain falling on the puddles.
Erenhot
We stayed in Erenhot that night and went shopping at the Russian-Mongolian goods street. Erenhot is a border city and port in China. The city is not big, the population is not large, but it’s relatively clean. There are many Mongolians in the picture above.
Erenhot
The fourth day
We went to the Dinosaur Geological Park in Erenhot first. There are the Yilingu Station Site Museum, the Mineral Museum, etc. This grassland self-driving tour only visited this attraction. We didn’t pay any entrance fees afterwards. The most beautiful scenery is along the way.

After leaving Erenhot, we went to Huai De. This is a picture of a deserted settlement taken along the way. We stayed in Huai De on the fourth night.
Erenhot, Sunite Right Banner, Saihante, Zhongbaoldazhong Bridge, Xinbaolage Town, Huai De. There’s a section of broken road, so we drove on the dirt road.
The grassland is dry and we rarely encounter flocks of sheep.
The sky in Erenhot, the white clouds look like you can reach out and pick one. We haven’t seen clouds like this in recent years.
The fifth day
We went back to Zala Camp that night and rode horses to see the grassland.
