Climbing Wulong Mountain in Dandong allows you to admire the entire view of Wulongbei Town. It’s a relatively lesser-known hiking destination with beautiful scenery along the way and fewer crowds. Every winter, it’s transformed into a ski resort, and there are also hot springs, making it a worthy destination throughout the year.
1. Travel Guide
Wulong Mountain Forest Park is located 17 kilometers northwest of Dandong City, belonging to the remnants of the Changbai Mountains. Its main peak reaches an altitude of 708.5 meters. The continuous mountains and undulating ridges resemble a group of dragons rising towards the sky, hence its name. Wulong Mountain is renowned for its majestic, perilous, secluded, peculiar, and victorious features, making it a long-standing tourist attraction in Liaoning. Wulong Mountain boasts elegant and beautiful natural landscapes as well as historical and cultural sites. Buddhist and Taoist religions have established their presence here since ancient times. Originally, there was a Lingfeng Temple on the mountain, dating back to the end of the Ming Dynasty, but it was destroyed during times of turmoil. In 2001, Lingfeng Zen Temple was rebuilt on the original site of Lingfeng Temple, showcasing grand scale and meticulous layout, becoming a major Buddhist temple in Northeast China with flourishing incense offerings. Wulong Mountain serves as both a natural botanical garden and a “natural stone carving park”. Notable attractions include Buddha Cave, Nianfo Stone, and Libei Stone. The Buddha Cave on the steep cliff is one of the significant Buddhist structures on Wulong Mountain. The Libei Stone is a crucial remnant from the Manchukuo period, reflecting the religious activities on Wulong Mountain. Additionally, there are dozens of other scenic formations such as the Golden Toad Gazing at the Moon, Lotus Peak, Stone Forest, Buddha Viewing Platform, Ghost Gate Pass, Divine Turtle Stone, and Ascension Cave.
