Sanya Four-Day Travel Guide

Sanya is a charming tourist city and the most famous spot for tropical beach tourism in China. It attracts tourists from all over the world every year. Not only are there beautiful scenery but also many delicacies waiting for you. Here is a detailed guide for a four-day trip to Sanya.

March 17, 2018, was my husband and my wedding anniversary. We had never been to the beach and he didn’t have time, so we chose to spend this special day in Sanya, Hainan.

Itinerary:

Day1: Arrive in Sanya in the afternoon, check into the Hawaii Hotel, and have a stroll in Dadonghai.

Day2: Stay at the same hotel, visit Yalong Bay and Yanoda Tropical Rainforest. Return to Dadonghai in the evening.

Day3: Take a shuttle from Dadonghai to Fenjiezhou Island in the morning, and check into the Fenjiezhou Fishing Club.

Day4: Take the hotel shuttle to leave the island and check into the Rui Jia B&B in Sanya Bay.

Day5: Return home.

I recommend staying at Fenjiezhou Island and visiting Yalong Bay. If you have time, you can also go to Haitang Bay, where the water quality is good.

Okay, let’s get down to business and talk about the details of eating, living, and traveling.

Items to bring: change of clothes (just bring summer clothes), sunscreen, sunshade, sunglasses, camera, ID card, bank card…

I only brought these things. To make it convenient, I brought fewer things and only a few necessary items.

We booked an early morning flight on March 15th (the tickets for West Air are usually the cheapest, but the risk of delays is very high. I got delayed). After a long journey, we finally arrived at the hotel at 2:30 pm. For convenience of travel, we booked the Hawaii Hotel near Dadonghai for the first night. The price is 236/night without breakfast. The hotel has been open for several years, but it has complete facilities, is close to the beach, and the price is affordable. After checking in, we couldn’t wait to go to the beach in Dadonghai.

Beautiful photos taken on the beach in Dadonghai on the first day.

I found a small coconut grove, and quickly took a picture.

After a while, we found it too hot and boring, and there were too many people. We walked along the coastline to find our friends, who were staying at the Manhattan Hotel. This hotel is by the sea and has its own infinity pool. They paid 900/night for their room (not a sea view room).

ps: Our friends flew in on a different flight and planned to travel with us.

Photos taken by the pool at the Harman Hotel. The light was too strong, so the background of the photos can’t see the sea.

We had coconut rice for dinner at the food court.

Coconut juice, a must-drink, is very refreshing.

After dinner, we went back to the hotel and planned our itinerary for the next day. We decided to go to the Yalong Bay beach and the Yanoda Tropical Rainforest. To make it convenient, we stayed at the Hawaii Hotel for another night. We got up early the next morning and set off with our light luggage. The five of us hired a car for 40 yuan to take us to Yanoda. The driver helped us buy tickets, which gave us a 20 yuan discount per person.

Yesterday, I already felt that Dadonghai was no different from Chongqing. Coming to Yanoda, I felt even more like I was in the countryside of Chongqing. There was nothing to play, and my legs ached after returning.

The five of us thought Yanoda was simply a rip-off, so we quickly left and headed to Yalong Bay. A private car driver at the entrance of the scenic area quoted us 100 yuan to take us from Yanoda to Yalong Bay.

If you are traveling independently to the Yanoda Scenic Area, you will be asked to go down the pedestrian passage and have to walk a downhill path to the actual main entrance of the scenic area. We didn’t know this and almost went out from there. There are electric car shuttle services at that location, which are extra cost. The shuttle costs 360 yuan, and the staff will tell you that it takes 2 hours to walk back and forth. Don’t believe them! The road is flat and easy to walk, and it’s not far.

When we arrived at the Yalong Bay beach, it was very different. The water was so blue, the scenery was beautiful. I’m holding a coconut ice cream in my hand, it’s super delicious!

The beach is perfect for taking silhouette photos. This is the first photo of my husband and me on the beach (he had chicken pox, so there are no frontal photos).

After playing at the beach, we were about to visit the best attraction of the trip, Fenjiezhou Island. After discussion, we decided to stay on the island for one night to experience the tranquility and comfort of the island at night. There is only one hotel on the island, the Fenjiezhou Island Fishing Club. We booked a sea view room for 776/night (includes breakfast for two, round-trip tickets for two from Sanya to Fenjiezhou Island, and round-trip ferry tickets for two), which is quite a bargain.

Waiting for our friends to check in.

The view from our room. When we first arrived, there was no sun, so the light was not good. However, it was extremely beautiful when the light came on.

We couldn’t wait until the afternoon when the tourists left the island. The island was instantly quiet, and it became our world. We quickly grabbed our camera and went out for a walk and took photos. My husband and I saw the most beautiful sunset on the beach together.

We can enjoy the sea breeze and the island scenery from the balcony of our room.

The most beautiful sunset arrived. There was also a young couple next to us taking photos of the sunset. We asked them to take our photo with their phone.

It was the first time I really watched a sunset, the first time I watched a sunset by the sea, and the first time I took photos of a sunset scene.

After watching the sunset, we went to dinner, happily enjoying a delicious and abundant seafood feast. We were so lucky, and not for anything else, but for the seafood. We picked out our own seafood and chose a Sichuan Xiao Huzi seafood processing restaurant. There was steamed seafood, stir-fried seafood, pepper salt pipa shrimp, spicy fried lobster, pepper salt mantis shrimp, and crab…

My husband and I are seafood lovers who can’t live without spice. That day, except for a plate of spicy fried shrimp that we didn’t finish, we devoured everything else. The price was reasonable. Although we knew that the portion size might not be enough, it didn’t affect the deliciousness and value for money. By the way, when buying seafood, don’t buy it immediately when you enter. Walk around, ask the prices, and then decide which store to buy from. The prices at the entrance are more expensive. We went back to the hotel to rest and headed to Sanya Bay the next day. We chose to spend the last night at Sanya Bay because it is close to the airport, which is convenient, and also because we could go to the Sunset Promenade on the beach in Sanya Bay. We stayed in a B&B in Sanya Bay. The price was reasonable, but of course, the conditions cannot be compared to hotels.

The next morning, we went hiking to see the island scenery.

When we came back, we sent postcards to our friends and ourselves at the island post office. Then we packed our bags and left the island.

Summary:

Personally, I think the experience of spending the night on Fenjiezhou Island was the best, it was very relaxing. Those who go there can choose to spend a night there. The consumption on the island is similar to that on the mainland.

The tropical rainforest is completely unnecessary. For someone like me who comes from a mountainous city, there will be no surprise.

We didn’t play any water activities because of our physical condition, which is a bit of a pity.

Overall, it was an unforgettable journey.
