1. Airplane
I believe you should know that the fastest and most convenient way to get to the scenic spot is by plane. It takes 80 minutes to fly from Urumqi to Kanas Airport. There are buses at the airport that can take you directly to the scenic spot. It’s about 60 kilometers to get to Kanas Lake.
2. Train
Take a train from Urumqi to Altay Railway Station and then take a car to the scenic spot.
Urumqi → Karamay → Beitun
Beitun → Kanas, Transfer by car
3. Self-driving
Kanas is more than 800 kilometers away from Urumqi. It will take at least ten hours to drive there. So the process will be very tiring. However, private cars are not allowed to enter the scenic spot during the peak season!
East route: Urumqi → Beitun → Burqin → Kanas
West route: Urumqi → Karamay → Burqin → Kanas
4. My suggestion
Although self-driving is indeed tiring, I still recommend that you drive if you can. Because there are so many tourists recently, according to the scenic spot manager, rooms costing several thousand yuan are all booked, and some houses in Kanas and Hemu even cost more than 10,000 yuan! You can imagine that because of the large number of tourists, the housing resources are very tight. In this case, if you are self-driving, if you can’t find a room, you can still sleep in your car, which is better than having nowhere to sleep!
