Peach blossoms are not only the messengers of spring, but also the object of poets’ praises since ancient times. In Xuhui Longhua, peach blossoms have been given a new meaning, the peach blossoms of Longhua are a symbol of revolution.
In the stele forest area of Longhua Martyrs Cemetery, there is a famous poem “Prison Poem”: “Longhua through the ages look up to the high wind, the brave men died but their aspirations are not exhausted. Peach blossoms outside the wall and blood inside the wall, equally bright and equally red.” This poem closely links peach blossoms with the spirit of revolutionary martyrs.
In order to better spread the deeds of heroes and martyrs, and make their spirit more attractive and more concrete, Longhua Martyrs Cemetery, together with Xuhui District Greening and Urban Appearance Bureau and other departments, use peach blossoms as the main tree species throughout the area around Longhua Cemetery, and combine different types of flower mirrors with different site conditions under the peach blossoms.
