Shanghai is a city that is full of a sense of sophistication and grandeur for many Chinese people. After all, Shanghai is currently the most developed city in China, recognized by the public, and is also the benchmark for China’s economic development. It is known as the Magic City. Shanghai’s modern historical status is very important, leaving behind many interesting places. Below we will share with you a list of interesting attractions in Shanghai.
When I was still unable to take my mom on a trip, we went on group tours of Shanghai many times, but I don’t remember any of them being particularly memorable or satisfying. During the Qingming Festival, I took my mom on a free trip, and that was the first time it felt like a real trip.
I would recommend a few attractions that moms might like, after all, at their age, they don’t like internet celebrity shops, they only like flowers and plants and buildings with special architectural features.
1⃣️ Zhujiajiao Ancient Town
Transportation: Take the subway to Da Shijie Station and then take the Shanghai-Zhujiajiao Expressway. The city buses usually board according to seat order, the journey is about an hour, there are seats, which is quite comfortable.
After getting off the bus (Zhujiajiao Bus Station), you can walk to the entrance of the Zhujiajiao Ancient Town Scenic Area. There are many tricycles at the station entrance, which can take you to the scenic area for ten yuan. It’s not really necessary.
Attractions: No entrance fee, there are bridges, rivers, and white walls and blue tiles at the entrance. It has a sense of Wuzhen, even with a large flow of people, the scenery is still peaceful. Frankly speaking, the whole Zhujiajiao Ancient Town Scenic Area only has this one beautiful place, worth seeing and taking pictures. After you actually enter the town, it’s quite boring and commercialized, with every shop selling goods.
There is also a City God Temple (entrance fee 5/person) and a Qing Dynasty Post Office (entrance fee 5/person) inside the scenic area. They are really a rip-off! Make sure you resist going!
Suggested play time: Half a day in the morning.
2⃣️ Thames Town
After leaving Zhujiajiao Ancient Town, the next stop was Thames Town. I highly recommend taking a Didi (a ride-hailing service), which costs about eighty yuan. My mom stopped me from taking a Didi and insisted on taking the bus, which took ten stops and was crowded… it was too painful!
Thames Town is a European-style villa area with a commercial street. The overall style is very suitable for taking pictures, and there are many people taking wedding photos (of course, if you are traveling with your mom, you can forget about taking pictures). It’s very relaxing to admire the flowers, take a stroll, and take pictures in the town.
3⃣️ Yu Garden
Previously, when I went on tour groups, I always went to the City God Temple. In fact, there is a Yu Garden inside the City God Temple, which is a treasure. The entrance fee is 40/person.
Yu Garden is a private garden from the Ming Dynasty, with a strong Chinese style, and a strong southern style. It’s worth visiting. There are many gardens within the park, and any shot you take is a good one. You can spend about half a day there.
4⃣️ Qibao Old Street
Qibao Old Street is said to be a commercial street formed from the remains of old Shanghai houses. My mom also has a fondness for the bridge at the entrance and the buildings by the water. As for the commercial street, there’s nothing really worth recommending.
5⃣️ Tianzifang
A commercial street in an old alleyway in Shanghai, filled with small shops with an artistic vibe. It was drizzling when I went, and it felt like walking in Jiangnan. My mom bought a lot of scarves from there as gifts.
6⃣️ Gongqing Forest Park
During the Qingming Festival in April, it was the beginning of cherry blossoms, peach blossoms, and crabapple blossoms. The park is divided into many forest areas for visitors to admire. Gongqing Forest Park is very large, and it took us a whole day to visit. There are flowers, animals, and an amusement park, making it a great place to take children. However, the forest park should be open for quite a long time, and many of the facilities are a bit old.
7⃣️ The Bund & Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street
It’s good for taking pictures, as it’s a landmark group of buildings. The old Shanghai yogurt sold on Nanjing Road is quite good.
My mom is beautiful, I hope time slows down so I can spend more time with her.
I hope life treats her well, keeps her happy, and gives her enough health so I can have the chance to take her to see the world.
