Shanghai Science and Technology Museum has seven exhibition areas: Earth’s Secrets, Biodiversity, Wisdom of Light, Audiovisual Paradise, Cradle of Designers, Children’s Science Park, Natural Museum, and supporting facilities such as Giant Screen Cinema, Dome Cinema, 4D Cinema, Space Cinema, and a clubhouse, a souvenir shop, a temporary exhibition hall, a multi-functional hall, and a bank.

Biodiversity Zone

Biodiversity mainly includes three levels: genetic diversity, species diversity and ecological diversity.
The exhibition area is divided into two parts: the tropical rainforest area and the stone forest area, covering an area of 3,000 square meters. The tropical rainforest plants growing in layers in the rainforest area show the diversity of species, and the bat cave, amphibian and reptile corner, microscopic world, insect garden, bird kingdom, etc. in the stone forest area reflect the diversity of ecosystems. The “Forest Investigation Station” reveals the diversity of genes and reflects the cutting-edge achievements of gene technology.

Earth’s Secrets

The exhibition area mainly introduces the position and movement state of the earth in the universe, the material composition of the earth, the structural form of the earth, the surface morphological characteristics of the earth, and the natural geography of Shanghai. The exhibition area covers a total area of 2200 square meters and is divided into three parts, namely “Magnetic Levitation Earth Hall”, “Earth’s Secrets Journey” and “Shanghai Natural Geography”. The main theme of the exhibition is “Knowing our planet – Earth”, which is based on the main line of “Seeing the Earth from space → Exploring the Earth’s crust in depth → Returning to the surface to see a bright pearl on Earth – Shanghai”.

Audiovisual Paradise

Through interactive exhibits using robotic technology, virtual simulation technology, and film production technology, we introduce the development of today’s audio and video technology, which has changed the way we work and relax. It is in the constant development of technology that humans are improving work efficiency, improving the quality of life and realizing beautiful dreams. This exhibition area covers an area of approximately 1100 square meters and has eight large interactive exhibits.

Cradle of Designers

Here, visitors can participate in some simple design and manufacturing activities, experience some basic technologies of modern design and advanced manufacturing, including (CAD/CAM), laser engraving technology, rapid prototyping technology, etc. The Cradle of Designers exhibition area aims to allow visitors to experience that there is design everywhere in life through their own personal participation, and everyone can become a designer.
The exhibition area is set up with a design and manufacturing area, a visitor design area, and a design masterpiece area. The main exhibits include a gift carving station, 3D head scanning and production, flexible assembly line, business card greeting card production station, MTV production station, CAD classroom, and design gallery.
