Scenic Spot Guide

Shanghai Grand View Garden is located on the west side of Dianshan Lake in Qingpu District. It is a large-scale complex of ancient buildings and modern gardens. The layout is designed according to the description in the Chinese classical novel “Dream of the Red Chamber”. The environment in Grand View Garden is beautiful. There are stone bridges, lotus ponds, pavilions and towers, and there are many wax figures depicting the stories of “Dream of the Red Chamber” in the houses. It makes people feel as if they are in the novel scene written by Cao Xueqin everywhere.

Grand View Garden is far away from the city, and it was built relatively early. In addition, the publicity in recent years is not as strong as before, so there are not many tourists visiting the garden on weekdays. However, this makes Grand View Garden a good place with a quiet environment. There are lush plants in Grand View Garden, especially bamboo. Many ancient and famous trees have also been transplanted. Every summer, a large area of lotus flowers bloom in the artificial lake, which is very beautiful. Grand View Garden in winter is also a good place to enjoy plum blossoms. Photography enthusiasts who want to take quiet photos should not miss it.

Although the buildings in Grand View Garden are imitations of ancient buildings, they are ingeniously designed. Whether it is the elegant and elegant furnishings inside the house or the exquisite and beautiful garden layout, they all combine the grandeur of royal forests and the beautiful style of Jiangnan gardens, fully restoring the environment of the Jia family in “Dream of the Red Chamber”. Inside, there are “Yihongyuan”, the residence of Jia Baoyu, “Xiaoxiang Pavilion”, the residence of Lin Daiyu, “Qiushuangzhai”, the residence of Jia Tanchun, “Longcui Temple”, the place where Miaoyu practiced, as well as “Grand View Tower”, “Li Xiangyuan”, “Daoxiangcun” and other buildings. There are introduction boards for each building and wax figure scene.

Sometimes there will be performances of opera scenes from “Dream of the Red Chamber” in Grand View Garden, especially during national holidays. There is a tea room in Grand View Tower, where you can enjoy tea, appreciate the scenery and chat. However, there is no restaurant in the park, and the restaurants in front of the scenic area are expensive, so it is recommended to bring snacks and water.

There is a Shanghai Ethnic Culture Village opposite Grand View Garden. It is a small scenic spot built in the early years, but now it is quite dilapidated. It is not worth buying tickets to go in. Grand View Garden is located on the border between Shanghai and Jiangsu. It is only 11 kilometers away from Zhouzhuang Ancient Town. It is very convenient to drive there.
