Changsha Cycling Route Recommendations

The Dragon Boat Festival holiday is just around the corner. Choosing a suitable day for cycling and inviting a group of friends to ride around Changsha when the traffic is light is a good choice. You can enjoy the scenery along the way and relieve the boredom of work. Here are some cycling routes in Changsha for you.

【Huai Tang】

Changsha Cycling Route Recommendations

Cycling route: Hunan University Dongfanghong Square→ Lianhua Town→ Huai Tang Hot Spring

Huai Tang Bicycle Theme Park is the first of its kind in the province. The tracks in the park are all built according to international mountain bike standards. The professional track is 5.3 kilometers long and the amateur track is 3.5 kilometers long. The track is surrounded by beautiful scenery, fragrant trees and plants, bamboo forests, pine trees, clear ponds in the countryside, and large fields of rape blossoms.

【Yue Lu Mountain】

Cycling route: Hunan Normal University Erliban→ Yue Wang Temple→ 73rd Army Cemetery→ Stone Bridge→ Lu Shan Temple→ Baihequan Steep Slope→ Yinxinshi House→ Bird Paradise (South)→ Yunlu Palace→ Bird Paradise North→ Huangxing Tomb→ Mangshe Cave-Fire Prevention Road→ Hunan Normal University

The whole journey is about 5 kilometers. Staff at the Yue Lu Mountain Scenic Area suggest that cyclists should avoid downhill slopes at Baihequan and other places to prevent injury to tourists climbing the mountain.

【Yang Hu】

Changsha Cycling Route Recommendations

Cycling route: Yang Hu Wetland Main Entrance (Pioneer Bull Sculpture Square)→ Science Museum→ Observation Tower→ Wind and Rain Bridge→ Bird Watching Corridor→ Agricultural Culture Experience Zone→ Yang Hu Wetland Main Entrance (Pioneer Bull Sculpture Square)

At present, Yang Hu Wetland is building a 13-kilometer slow traffic system. Bring your bike and come to Yang Hu to release your mood and ride freely.

【Hei Mi Feng】

Cycling route: City Center→ Wujiangling→ Furong North Road→ Qiaoyi→ River Embankment (2 kilometers of gravel road) over the railway→ Archway→ Abnormal Slope (recommended location)→ Hei Mi Feng Peak→ Local Government→ Back Mountain (weathered rock gravel road, with some risk)→ Fufeng→ Fuxing→ Beishan Town→ Hongshan→ Sifangping→ City Center

Cycling at Hei Mi Feng, the biggest challenge is the “abnormal slope” before entering the park ticket station. This slope stretches upwards all the way to the depths of the mountain range. It’s definitely a comprehensive test of cyclists’ physical fitness. However, on the way up the mountain by bike, the air in the forest is fresh, the wind is cool, and you can see azaleas and bamboo shoots by the roadside. It’s a different kind of charm, especially when you reach the top of the mountain and the Hei Mi Feng Reservoir dam comes into view, with the momentum of “a high gorge gives way to a flat lake.” When it comes time to go down the mountain, the “abnormal slope” you went up becomes the best slide, all the way down the mountain, letting cyclists experience the thrill of extreme sports.

【Cycling around Changsha City in one day】

Cycling route: Train Station→ Changsha Evening News→ Upper Ring Road→ Sanchaji Bridge→ Yue Lu District→ Yue Lu Mountain Scenic Area→ Cross Xiangjiang Bridge No. 1 to Taiping Street→ Through Taiping Street→ Pozi Street→ Du Fu Jiang Ge→ Tianxin Pavilion

One-day tours in Changsha are a favorite of many office workers, but it’s best to choose times when the traffic is light. According to cyclist Xiao Xu, he usually chooses to ride on weekend mornings or weeknight evenings, when there’s less traffic on the road and it’s relatively safe.

【Da Wei Mountain】

Changsha Cycling Route Recommendations

Cycling route: Changsha City Center→ Jiao Xi Ling→ Liuyang City→ Guandu (camping site)→ Da Wei Mountain (recommended to climb to the top)→ return along the original route

Da Wei Mountain is located at the junction of Hunan and Jiangxi provinces. The highest peak, Qixing Ling, is 1607.9 meters above sea level, the highest point in the Changsha area. Da Wei Mountain has superior natural conditions and rich tourism resources. But experienced cyclists say that a trip to Da Wei Mountain by bike requires a 3-day cycling schedule and camping in Guandu, otherwise cyclists will find it difficult to return to Changsha on time.
