Chenlu Ancient Town is located in Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province. It is an ancient town in the northwest style. A large number of ancient buildings are perfectly preserved, with a strong ancient charm and the grand and vast cultural and historical traces of the northwest can be seen everywhere. Here is a detailed travel guide to Chenlu Ancient Town.
During the May Day holiday, I went to Chenlu Ancient Town in Tongchuan with my friends to explore the ancient ruins.
Chenlu Ancient Town is named after the “ceramic kiln”, located 20 kilometers southeast of Yinda District, Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province, with an altitude of over 1300 meters.
Chenlu is one of the birthplaces of the ancient famous kiln – Yaozhou kiln, and it is also a base for firing Yao porcelain for thousands of years.
There are many ceramic workshops and pottery farms in Chenlu, where tourists can play with mud, eat and stay.
The main food in Chenlu is He La, Po Mian, pepper leaf pot helmet, etc.
You can drive to Chenlu by yourself or take the Chenlu Tourism Express. The Chenlu Tourism Express, which was opened on April 30, 2018, starts from the exit of the expressway in Tongchuan New District, which is very convenient.
It was our first time there, so we booked a ride-hailing service. The car started from Yaozhou and sped towards Chenlu.
Chenlu is located in the mountains, and the car has been climbing all the way, winding and endless, seemingly reaching the highest point, but then quickly rushing towards another highest point. It is truly the case that “one mountain looks higher than another!”
The acacia flowers in the plain area have already withered, while the acacia flowers in the mountains are just starting to bloom. As the car drove by, acacia flowers were in full bloom along the roadside, with small white flowers swaying gracefully on the trees. The fragrance of acacia flowers could be smelled from five miles away, and its fragrance was more attractive to us than the smell of perfume.
These clusters of acacia flowers attracted us, as well as the industrious little bees. There were beehives of beekeepers lined up neatly beside the road, with little bees buzzing around the hives, singing a joyful song.
Upon arriving at the Chenlu Tourist Center, we got off the car, took a map of the scenic area, and started our self-guided tour.
Following the steps down, the whole area below is the scenic area. We followed the road and kept walking. We went to Wangjia Porcelain Workshop, where we took many photos of porcelain and handicrafts.
Chenlu is most famous for its reverse flow pot and Gongdao cup.
A large bowl with a diameter of about one meter.
Walls filled with artistic works.
We also went to Lushan Pottery Village and saw a lot of fun things.
Vase coffee table.
Porcelain plate decoration.
The ingenuity of the working people is boundless. They make use of local materials and integrate porcelain into their lives. This is the people of Chenlu.
Along the way, we walked up and down the stairs, attracted by the jars and pots everywhere.
Unique streetlights.
I am a trash can.
Vase wall.
Jar wall, the top jar is planted with purple irises. When I came to Chenlu, the jar walls along the road captured all my attention.
We were tired, so we sat down on a bench to rest. The enthusiastic proprietress invited us to play with mud at her place, 30 yuan per person. We bargained down to 25 yuan, and the price was quite flexible.
The three of us really just played with mud. At the Tourist Center, we saw a child about ten years old making a jar, with skillful hands. After working for more than an hour, it was still a hideous mud pot with holes in it. But the process of playing with mud was a lot of fun.
While we were playing with mud, the proprietress invited a family to have lunch at her place. She happily prepared the ingredients and even used a hook to pick acacia flowers for the family.
Chenlu is a simple and honest porcelain village, quite different from Jingdezhen. If you like it, feel free to go and have a look. Bring your parents and your children, and embark on a journey to explore ancient times.
