During the seven-day National Day holiday, many friends have already planned to travel to Qingdao. So, what are some of the fun places in Qingdao? Below, we recommend a city loop route and a coastal tour route for you to visit the most attractions in the shortest time.
City Tour Route
For the city loop tour, it is recommended that you follow the route of the Catholic Church – the Christian Church – the German Governor’s Residence Museum – Signal Hill Park – Lao She’s Former Residence – China Ocean University – Xiaoyu Mountain – the Naval Museum – Xiaoqingdao.
Churches are often the oldest and most magnificent buildings in a city, filled with the atmosphere of history. Qingdao Catholic Church is 56 meters high and the only consecrated church in China. It is located in Zhejiang Road, Shi Nan District, Qingdao City, with a superior geographical location, making it suitable as the first stop of your tour.
Qingdao Christian Church is a famous religious building in Qingdao. It is very close to the Catholic Church, and you can visit them together to experience different architectural styles. It is located in Jiangsu Road, Shi Nan District.
Signal Hill Park is located east of the Christian Church. The hill is covered with flowers, plants, and green trees. You can climb the steps to the top of the hill and overlook the beautiful scenery of red roofs and green trees. It is located in Longshan Road, Shi Nan District, and you can walk there from the Christian Church. If you have time, you can visit the German Governor’s Residence Museum, which is currently open free of charge.
Lao She’s Former Residence, also known as the Luotuo Xiangzi Museum, is where Lao She wrote the novel “Luotuo Xiangzi.” This is the first museum in China named after a literary work, and it is worth a visit for literature enthusiasts. It is located in Huangxian Road, Shi Nan District, Qingdao City (closed on Mondays).
To understand the history and cultural heritage of a place, apart from museums, well-known universities are also essential places to visit. China Ocean University, founded in 1924, is a key university under the national “985 Project” and “211 Project.” It has several campuses, including: Laoshan Campus: 238 Songling Road, Qingdao City, Shandong Province; Yushan Campus: 5 Yushan Road, Qingdao City, Shandong Province; Fushan Campus: 23 Hong Kong East Road, Qingdao City, Shandong Province.
Xiaoyu Mountain is named after its proximity to Yushan Road. Not only can you overlook the red roofs and green trees, but you can also see the endless ocean. It is located at the intersection of Yushan Road and Fushan Road in Shi Nan District, Qingdao City, near the Yushan Campus of China Ocean University. It is also currently free of charge.
The Naval Museum is surrounded by attractions. It is adjacent to Lu Xun Park and the Qingdao Seafood Museum (Qingdao Aquarium) to the east, opposite the Xiaoqingdao Park and the Pier to the west, and the famous Qingdao Signal Hill Park to the north. It is located at No. 8 Laiyang Road, Shi Nan District, Qingdao City.
When you pass by the Naval Museum, you must visit Xiaoqingdao. It is a niche destination, with the blue sea and sky giving a feeling of the Aegean Sea. Xiaoqingdao is also known as “Qin Island” because of its shape, which resembles an ancient qin (a stringed musical instrument). It is located in Qin Yu Road, Shi Nan District, Qingdao City.
Sea Viewing Route
Of course, most of the friends coming to Qingdao are here to see the sea. Here, we have also planned a coastal loop tour route that does not require turning back. You can follow the route of the Pier – the First Bathing Beach – the Second Bathing Beach – the Eight Great Passes – the Third Bathing Beach – the May Fourth Square – Yan’er Island Park – Xiaomiai Island Park – the Shi Lao Ren Bathing Beach.
You can take the Qingdao Pier as the starting point for sea viewing. It is one of the scenic spots in the Qingdao coastal scenic area. The bridge is open to tourists, and tourist boats are docked there. You can take a boat to see Qingdao from the sea. It is located in Taiping Road, Shi Nan District, Qingdao City.
Qingdao’s three most famous bathing beaches are located on the same route. If you have limited time, you can choose one to swim in. The First Bathing Beach was once the largest bathing beach in Asia. The water in the bay is clear, the waves are small, and the sand is fine and soft. As a bathing beach, the natural conditions are excellent. It usually attracts the most visitors who come to swim in the sea. It is located in Huiquan Bay, Qingdao City.
The Second Bathing Beach is smaller than the First Bathing Beach, but it has many uniquely shaped internet celebrity caves for you to explore. It is also adjacent to the Eight Great Passes villa area, which you can visit together. It is located in Taiping Bay, east of Huiquan Bay, Qingdao City.
The Third Bathing Beach is not very large, but the seawater is exceptionally clear. There are various changing rooms on the beach, and the water for showering is hot, which is especially suitable for those who are not used to cold showers. It is located east of Taiping Jiao.
Continue eastward along the route and you will reach the May Fourth Square, named after Qingdao being the trigger for the great May Fourth Movement in modern Chinese history. It is backed by the Qingdao Municipal Government Office Building, facing Fushan Bay to the south, and adjacent to the Olympic Sailing Center, which you can visit together. It is located in Hong Kong Middle Road, Shi Nan District.
Yan’er Island Park used to be a niche beach, but it has now become an internet celebrity attraction in Qingdao, with more and more tourists coming to check it out. The blue and picturesque sea, the wooden boardwalk along the coast, and the gentle sea breeze make it a very pleasant place. It is located at the eastern end of Fushan Bay, Qingdao City.
Xiaomiai Island is a primitive island park, facing the Silver Sea World across the sea, making it a good place for walking and sightseeing. The island also has a wave observation station, a seawater desalination laboratory, etc. It is located in Laoshan District.
At the Shi Lao Ren Bathing Beach, the giant rock in the sea is the “Shi Lao Ren.” The azure blue water, the white sandy beach, the sparse groups of tents, and the famous internet celebrity caves attract many tourists to come and see. It is also a famous tourist attraction in Qingdao. It is located in Haier Road, Laoshan District.
