Highlights: The route mainly revolves around spring flowers and spring tea.

From March 26th to 27th, the 18th Mengding Mountain Tea Culture Tourism Festival will be held in Mingshan, Ya’an. A tea-appreciation feast cannot be missed.

The simplest way is to follow the The Most Beautiful Tea Garden Greenway, admiring the tea garden scenery along the way. On this route, at Niunianping, you can see the undulating, textured terraced tea gardens; at Earth’s Fingerprint, you can overlook the tea gardens, and see the circles of tea trees like the fingerprints of Mother Earth; on Mengding Mountain, you can savor spring tea and enjoy the exquisite tea skills performance… Each location has its own unique beauty.

Spring in Ya’an is a world of flowers, with pear blossoms, peach blossoms, rhododendrons, and other flowers blooming in succession. At different times, at different locations, you can see different flowers. This trip will be bursting with the atmosphere of spring.

March is the best time to enjoy pear blossoms and peach blossoms. Rhododendrons generally bloom in April, according to the altitude.

Spring is already half over, if you don’t go to see the flowers, it will be too late.

Highlights: The route unfolds along the Tea Horse Road.

The starting point of the Sichuan-Tibet Tea Horse Road is in Ya’an. For over a thousand years, border tea has been like a strong bond, tightly connecting the Han and Tibetan people.

Along this route, you can see the beauty of the tea gardens, and you can also explore the remains of the Tea Horse Road, and the stories of the porters. This will be a trip to learn about history and appreciate the beauty of the scenery.

Along this route, I would especially recommend China Tibetan Tea Village, which is a showcase of Tibetan tea culture. You can see firsthand how Tibetan tea traveled along the Tea Horse Road into Tibet, and how it was made. It’s especially suitable for taking children to visit.

In addition, places like Tianquan Zishi Pass, Qingxi Ancient City, etc. have well-preserved remains of the Tea Horse Road. You can walk along the Tea Horse Road to experience firsthand the hardships of porters carrying tea into Tibet.

Ya'an Travel Guide: Recommended Self-Driving Tour Routes

After the official announcement of the Giant Panda National Park, Ya’an is firmly at the center. 41.3% of Ya’an’s administrative area is included in the pilot area of the Giant Panda National Park. When you come to Ya’an, you must make time to meet the giant pandas!

If you want to see the star pandas and baby pandas all at once, the panda base at Bifeng Gorge Scenic Area is the best place to go.

If you want to find giant pandas in Ya’an, you must also visit Baoxing, the place where the world’s first scientific discovery of the giant panda was made. In addition to seeing them in Fengtongzhai · Dengchigou Scenic Area, you may also encounter giant pandas on the mountain roads in Baoxing. Local villagers encounter them from time to time.

Now, Rengjing County has specially created a South Entrance Community for the Giant Panda National Park, and several giant pandas have already moved into the community. Now the community has developed panda homestays, panda markets, etc.

Going south all the way, you arrive at Shimian Liziping, where the giant panda “Zhang Xiang” and others have been released back into the wild. There have also been research teams that have seen giant pandas in the reserve. Therefore, you also have a chance to encounter giant pandas here. At the same time, you can also enjoy the rhododendrons and plum blossoms at Meng Huocheng this season.
