Putuoshan, the Buddhist Kingdom of Sea and Sky, is the place where Guanyin Bodhisattva resides, and it is known for its effectiveness in praying for a child.

The Zhusheng Niangniang in Huiji Temple is said to be the most effective in the entire temple.

Many people say that the Guanyin Cave Temple is very effective for praying for a child.

1. Fayu Temple (recommended time: 30 minutes)

The wooden statue of the Send-Children Guanyin (holding a lotus flower with a child wrapped in it) is on the left side of the main hall.

2. Huiji Temple (recommended time: 25 minutes)

On the left side of the main hall is the Guanyin Hall, with a white jade statue of Zhusheng Send-Children Niangniang behind the Guanyin statue.

3. Shancai Cave (recommended time: 5 minutes)

The Send-Children Guanyin is on the right side of Shancai Tongzi.

4. Fanyin Cave (recommended time: 25 minutes)

Guide to Praying for a Child at Putuoshan Mountain: The Send-Children Guanyin at Various Places on Putuoshan Mountain

1. Nanhai Guanyin

The Send-Children Guanyin in Nanhai Guanyin is a painted image. After paying incense and worshipping Nanhai Guanyin outside, go to the hall and walk clockwise from the front left. You can worship along the way as you wish. When you walk clockwise to the right door, you will see a hanging image of Send-Children Guanyin on the side of the door. There is no kneeling pad in front of the image, so you can kneel directly on the ground to worship. When worshipping, you can pray and say the same things as when you lit the incense. Don’t be embarrassed to kneel. Since everyone who goes to Putuoshan has a prayer in their heart, they are very sincere. No one will laugh at you for kneeling on the ground. Just focus on your own intention.

2. Tianhua Baizitang (near Puji Temple)

After getting off the bus at Puji Temple Station, you don’t need to enter Puji Temple. Turn your back to the sea and you will see a courtyard on the left side of the station. There is a small sign on the white wall saying Tianhua Baizitang. This is where a very effective Send-Children Guanyin is enshrined. Walk forward, and the first door on your right is Tianhua Temple. Walk forward a bit, and there is a “Baizitang”. In the “Baizitang”, there is a Send-Children Tower behind the main hall. You need to go up to the second floor from the stairs next to the main hall door. There is a statue of Send-Children Guanyin enshrined on the second floor. First worship Guanyin in the main hall. After finishing, walk inside and you will see a two-story building. This building is called the “Send-Children Tower”. It is usually not open to the public. Whether it is open is up to fate. If you don’t happen to be there when it is open, don’t force your way in. You can kneel and worship outside the door. As long as you are sincere, the Bodhisattva will feel it.

3. Huiji Temple (Mount Foding)

Huiji Temple is on Mount Foding. You can take the cable car up the mountain or climb up the mountain yourself. There are 1080 steps to the top of the mountain. After taking the cable car to the top of the mountain, you will see the “Non-dual Gate”. On the left side of the main hall of Huiji Temple is the Guanyin Hall. The Guanyin Bodhisattva is enshrined in front of the hall, and behind the Guanyin statue is a white jade statue of Zhusheng Send-Children Niangniang. This is a must-visit place for those who pray for a child at Putuoshan. This is the Zhusheng Niangniang that everyone says is the most effective in Putuoshan.

4. Fanyin Cave

Fanyin Cave is on the mountain. First find the “Fanyin Liaoliang” plaque above the gate of the courtyard. Then walk down the stone steps from in front of the gate. You will see the “Zhansheng Pavilion”. The pavilion is suspended halfway up the mountain (Zhansheng Pavilion). There are two floors. Go down to the bottom floor. There is a statue of Send-Children Guanyin.

5. Shancai Cave

Shancai Cave. There is a statue of Send-Children Guanyin on the right side. When you go to Shancai Cave, you can prepare a 100 yuan bill with a lucky number, because there is Shancai Tongzi in the cave who you can rub against the rock wall to absorb some wealth. Be careful not to hit your head in the cave. When you come out, use the money to rub the rock wall. You will know where to rub because the walls are already polished bright.

6. Luogai Mountain

You need to take a boat to Luogai Mountain. After getting off the boat, don’t follow the crowd and go into the temple. Keep walking up the mountain, avoiding the tour groups, and keep walking until you reach the “Entering Liberation Gate”. Then go to the Send-Children Hall on the left side of Dajue Temple to worship the Send-Children Guanyin.

7. Guanyin Cave (Western Heaven Scenic Area)

Guanyin Cave is in the Western Heaven Scenic Area. If you are praying for a child, you don’t need to walk through the entire Western Heaven Scenic Area. Just walk from the west side of the pier, it’s not far. The ancient cave is very spiritual. There is a painting of Send-Children Guanyin on the stone wall in the cave.

Important Things to Keep in Mind When Praying for a Child

1. You should worship all the Send-Children Guanyin on Putuoshan Mountain. It usually takes one and a half to two days, depending on how tight your schedule is.

2. When worshipping on the island, it is recommended to eat vegetarian food throughout the entire trip and worship sincerely.

3. It is recommended not to take photos except at Nanhai Guanyin. You can take photos at Nanhai Guanyin, but avoid being in the same frame as the Bodhisattva to show respect.

4. It is best for couples to come to Putuoshan to pray for a child together.

5. It is recommended to bring a large bucket of incense for the entire worship trip. You can bring it from home or buy it on the island. It is not recommended to buy incense individually at the temples.
