As the old saying goes: “Above there is heaven, below there are Suzhou and Hangzhou.” Although I have seen many beautiful photos of Suzhou online, I can only know how beautiful it is when I see it myself. This trip to Suzhou is a must. Well, this is a place where both people and scenery are beautiful.
A very open-minded friend of mine once said: “In March, get drunk on the fleeting years of youth. In April, dream of a blue smoke and rain.” At that time, his casual remark gave me endless longing for the water town of Jiangnan, the smoke and rain, and the towers.
It’s not that I’m looking forward to this casual trip, wanting to feel the unrestrainedness of drifting. It’s not that I’m lazy in planning, after all, this is me—a post-90s generation who seeks an excuse for my own enthusiasm and passion.
Time flies quickly, and so I chose Suzhou and embarked on a solo, unplanned trip, I guess I’m quite bold. With a long dress and a backpack, I looked forward to the beauty of the breeze. After all, there is a big gap between ideals and reality. There is no beauty, only chaos. Fortunately, I booked a hotel on the first day. Without thinking too much, I went to bed early, hoping for a better tomorrow.
In just three days, I visited the Lin Garden, went to a bookstore on the street, took pictures of young people playing on the bridge, and captured a shot of a girl dressed in Hanfu. Everywhere I went was a purposeless wandering, yet with a bit of fate and coincidence.
In the evening, I took a taxi along the road that circled the moat. I don’t know who broke the silence first. I and this uncle, almost 40 years old, hit it off. He enthusiastically told me about authentic Suzhou cuisine, about the charm of Suzhou, revealing the pride of Suzhou people. I was very happy with this encounter, there was no generation gap. He was surprised that I was traveling alone, I lamented his planned travel. Perhaps this is the difference between two generations, but not a distance. Because one day I will become like him, more responsible and more planned with the passage of time.
Sometimes during my travels, I will be attracted by the scenery along the way, and I will stop for the pedestrians on the road. Looking at everyone reflected in my eyes for a moment, that’s all stories, all beautiful encounters.
Thank you for this trip, now I have to go back, back to my original life track. Farewell to these fleeting passersby, back to the world where you are still you, and I am still me. May all the beautiful moments in the world be cherished and shared.
