Every year, dragon boat races are held on the Lancang River, watching young Dai men work together and compete with each other. On April 13th, you can go to the viewing platform on the Lancang River to watch. Before the start, there will be a celebration ceremony (mainly speeches by leaders, which are not very interesting). Dragon boat racing usually starts at 13:00 noon, dancing while racing, and there will be sky rockets soaring into the air from time to time with a whistling sound. Releasing sky rockets is a special way for the Dai people to express their good wishes (similar to setting off fireworks during the Chinese New Year). There are also traditional ethnic programs, cockfighting performances, etc. It will be very crowded on this day. If you want to watch it, be sure to go early, otherwise it will be difficult to get into the front row, and you will be blocked and basically unable to see. It will be very hot at noon. Water-splashing is the highlight of this festival. Although there will be small-scale water-splashing fun everywhere during the festival, the real climax is usually the third day of the festival, which is April 15th (usually there are more people participating in water-splashing from 11:00 to 16:00). This is the day when the whole city goes crazy with water-splashing. You can get water everywhere in the city. The official will open the water taps on each street for everyone to use. The water spraying facilities in the whole city will also be open all day, continuously spraying clear water full of blessings. It really feels like a world war. Some groups of people walking on the road are like a regular infantry company, except that their weapons are water guns, buckets, basins, and water balloons, and their mission is to ensure that all passersby get wet. The mobile force is not to be outdone. The soldiers on various open-top vehicles (pickup trucks, trucks) are “armed with guns”, and the vehicles are also filled with water, looking down from a high position, and frantically attacking the infantry.
