The hydrangeas in Nanjing Hydrangea Park are basically about to bloom, and the clusters of hydrangeas in front of you are scattered under the roots of the trees. The blooming of the hydrangeas is, in my opinion, a different kind of beautiful impact, and this beautiful scene happens once a year.
Hydrangea Park
Walking west along Zhongshan North Road, out of Yijiang Gate, right next to the Ming City Wall is Hydrangea Park. There have been significant changes here, and it has become an extremely elegant Jiangnan landscape garden: the mountains, water, city and forest are contained within the park, the landscaping is compact, bright, beautiful and light. It is truly a great place to rest, tour, cultivate one’s mind and body, exercise and have fun.
Walking through Yijiang Gate, I reached the entrance to Hydrangea Park. The few hundred meters of this journey seemed to rekindle the old times of Nanjing for me; there wasn’t the hustle and bustle of Xuanwu Lake or Xin Jie Kou. There was only the Nanjing dialect of the old people of Xia Guan chatting and laughing.
Hydrangea Park has been accompanying Nanjing in this environment. Now, it has been nearly 70 years.
Hydrangea Park, named after the mountain of hydrangeas, is an elegant landscape garden in the Jiangnan region. When the spring breeze gently blows, go to Hydrangea Park to admire Nanjing’s most beautiful hydrangeas. The light-colored spherical flowers are clustered together, like white snow decorating the branches. Very beautiful.
Hydrangea Park is located north of Yuejiang Tower Scenic Area and south of Xiaotaoyuan Park, like two adults holding a child. It is just a green space to relax for citizens in the bustling and crowded northern part of the city.
Many years later, many young people don’t remember what Hydrangea Park is like.
But in fact, it has been quietly accompanying us all along. It brought us joy as children. Now it gives our grandparents warmth.
In 2019, I hope that the people of Xia Guan will be able to bring their parents back to visit and find their old memories.
On May 19, 2020, early summer in Nanjing, the weather was clear. The herbaceous hydrangeas in Hydrangea Park were in full bloom, gradually changing from pink to light blue, pink, light yellow, light blue, snow green… The world of hydrangeas in the park is so beautiful that many citizens come to play cards and admire it.
