What to do in Xiji

Tomorrow I will be on my way. Thinking about the upcoming journey, I am a little nervous. Even though it’s past 2 am, I’m still looking at my phone’s map applications. After all, this is a self-driving tour, so it’s better to be cautious. Otherwise, if the navigation is wrong, forget about having fun, you’ll spend all your time on the road. This time I’m going to Xiji, a place with a strong ancient atmosphere. I don’t have a lot of time, but I’m still very excited to travel.

I woke up at seven. Drove my wife to school, and rushed back to pack my luggage. As a man, I don’t have as much to do as women. Just see a few pieces of clothing and throw them into the bag. The most important thing is to check my pockets before leaving to see how much money I have.

Since I drove last year, and I don’t have much luggage, I’m familiar with the process. However, I went to bed too late last night and kept dozing off. Lao Wei is coming for the first time, and he is very interested in the lush greenery, the sparse and barren land. Along the way, he kept talking about the beautiful mountains and clear waters, and kept taking pictures of the scenery with his phone.

On the way to Changwu

Long-distance driving must be slow and steady. All the way, as the only driver, I have to keep my eyes open and focus. Lao Wei is considerate. Sometimes he would squeeze my shoulders, sometimes he would chat with me about some topics that we don’t usually touch upon, and of course, he would play music to keep me awake. As my only companion, he’s very perceptive and responsible.

We decided to go to Xiji on the way. Because of Zhang Chengzhi, because of Snow, I’ve always had this feeling in my heart that I couldn’t shake off. As one of the least habitable areas in the world, I felt regret when I reached its county town. I shouldn’t have come. I can’t do anything. I am just a spectator. A passing traveler. I came here just to take a look at the poverty, nothing more.

But Xu Sanduo said that things like this are meaningful. I guess he thinks so. He built a road by himself, and everyone in the Fifth Platoon also has a road in their hearts. This road illuminates everyone, it is brilliant. That is, don’t just live your life, do something meaningful.

I don’t know how many meaningful things I’ve done in the past. Anyway, I’ve come to today. From today on, I’ve decided to do meaningful things, whether it’s walking or reading, as long as it helps me to broaden my horizons, I think that’s enough. However, this step is not easy to take.

Zhongwei Drum Tower

Just like my JianShu name, “Poplar Tree in the North”, I hope I can take root in the loess soil, I hope to reach deep into the earth, to touch the bottom, at the same time I also eagerly hope that I can focus my attention on the distance, stand high and see far, never be a well frog. Zhu Xian from the popular TV drama “The White Deer Plain” made me his fan. Living in a remote place, but thinking of the high court.

After all this time, I also need a role model. In life, we must have some pursuits.

However, on second thought, I am. Zhang Chengzhi is also. Our concern can only be concern. Real change needs self-reliance. What will happen to Xiji? The fate is in the hands of the Xiji people. They have to walk their own path, and they have to steer their own ship.

Zhongwei Street View

I pulled my thoughts back from Xiji. On the way to Zhongwei, I went over this trip again. I was thinking about the next stop, the bright lights and bustling city, this Yellow River pearl called Zhongwei. I didn’t expect that upon arrival, I would find that it is as clean as Yinchuan, with a slow pace, comfortable and pleasant.

Ningxia is becoming more and more curious to me. After Zhongwei, will the next stop be equally amazing?
