II. Detailed Itinerary
01. Dreamlike Snow Mountain Reflection
Head towards Yongbula Kang from Naitong Road in Shannan City, navigate to “Yasan Temple” in Yadui Township, and continue up the dirt road on the left after seeing the Yala Xiangbu Snow Mountain stele.
Turn left at the “Yasan Reservoir” sign and continue your journey along the fork in the road. Due to the extremely rugged roads, it is recommended to drive a four-wheel drive off-road vehicle.
After a winding mountain road, you will reach Yasan Reservoir, which is formed by the convergence of glacial meltwater. The color of the water surface changes with the seasons.
In spring, Yasan Reservoir, surrounded by snow mountains, is pure and flawless, with clear reflections in the water, hazy and dreamy, like a fairy tale world. It feels like the sky has lowered itself, welcoming visitors into its own ice and snow kingdom.
Another equally beautiful ice lake is located over a hillside. This ice lake is connected to the end of the Yala Xiangbu sacred mountain glacier. Here, Yala Xiangbu Snow Mountain appears even more magnificent and majestic.
The lake’s outline is uneven, like a natural mirror, clearly reflecting the blue sky, white clouds, and surrounding mountains, resembling a natural ink painting that makes people linger and forget to return.
Walking along the lakeshore, the lake water is sometimes deep blue and sometimes light green, like emeralds embedded in this vast land. When sunlight refracts on the surface of the lake, the water shimmers, as if countless pearls are twinkling.
02. The Majestic and Mighty Yala Xiangbu Snow Mountain
Starting from Yasan Reservoir, there are two paths for hiking up the mountain. One leads to the ice lake and the perpetually frozen glacier, while the other path leads to the summit of Yala Xiangbu Snow Mountain.
Viewing the snow mountain from near the summit feels like being in the clouds. From the sea of clouds to the sun shining on the mountain, it is truly magical and beautiful. Whether it’s the snow-covered exterior or the dazzling ice and snow world, it’s truly awe-inspiring.
As a significant part of the Himalayas, Yala Xiangbu Snow Mountain is one of the nine major mountains in Tibet. Its altitude is approximately 6600 meters above sea level, with permanent snow cover. The melting snow and ice from the mountain form the Yarlung Tsangpo River, nurturing generations of Yarlung people.
In spring, Yala Xiangbu Snow Mountain remains as “cold” as ever. The mountain’s black rocks and white snow are interspersed, with steep slopes that are nearly vertical, resembling a supremely sturdy ice blade piercing the sea of clouds. Its scenery captivates countless hearts.
It’s worth mentioning that most snow mountains in Tibet expose their rocky terrain, with very few being completely white. However, some parts of Yala Xiangbu Snow Mountain don’t reveal a single rock, remaining pristine white, with gentle and graceful lines, embodying a very dynamic and natural romance!
III. Precautions
1. Health Condition:
Yala Xiangbu Snow Mountain is located in a high-altitude area, and hiking activities require good physical condition. Please ensure your health is in good shape. If you have chronic diseases or special circumstances, please consult a doctor for advice before hiking.
2. Preventing Altitude Sickness:
Due to the thin air at high altitudes, you may experience altitude sickness symptoms such as headaches, shortness of breath, and nausea. Please be mindful of adapting to the high altitude, arrange your itinerary reasonably, and give your body sufficient rest.
3. Clothing and Equipment:
Hiking in Yala Xiangbu Snow Mountain is windy and cold. Please wear comfortable, breathable clothing and bring a windproof and warm jacket. Also, be sure to bring sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and other protective gear.
4. Route and Vehicles:
The road up the mountain is steep, with many cross axles. Be careful of the bottom of the car’s chassis; it is recommended to drive a four-wheel drive off-road vehicle; drive slowly and cautiously uphill, paying attention to safety; be extra careful if it rains or snows; a friendly reminder to everyone to clean up your trash and be sure to protect the environment.
On the road from Yasan Reservoir to Yala Xiangbu Snow Mountain, there will be a difficult frozen ice section that requires crampons. Even with complete equipment, crossing this section is very dangerous, so please proceed with caution.
In addition, you can also bring some high-calorie foods, such as chocolate, nuts, etc., in case of emergencies.
