Camping Spots Around Wuhan

Many people know that camping has become very popular in the past two years, and its popularity has increased significantly. So, where are some good places to camp around Wuhan? Let’s explore some great camping spots in Wuhan with me!

1、Eight-Part Mountain

The first place I recommend is the recently viral Eight-Part Mountain, located northwest of Zhifang City, Jiangxia District, Wuhan. It was originally called Eight Treasures Mountain, but was renamed due to “the presence of water, which splits like an eight.”

This mountain is not particularly high, but from its peak, you can overlook the entire Zhifang urban area and enjoy the most beautiful sunset. It is an excellent place for outdoor hiking.

There is a natural large lawn on the top of the mountain, which is perfect for camping. Imagine sitting on the ground with a few friends, enjoying the cool breeze and watching the sunset—it’s simply idyllic.

2、Yaojia Mountain

When people mention Yaojia Mountain, many think of “the first village of the Wuhan Anti-Japanese War,” but Yaojia Mountain offers more than just the old government site. It boasts numerous stunning natural landscapes, including the most famous Yaojia Mountain Xiangxi Valley, hailed as the first wetland valley in Wuhan.

Yaojia Mountain is backed by the majestic Dabie Mountains, giving the valley a refreshing coolness. Surrounded by mountains and with a babbling brook, walking through the valley is incredibly refreshing and relaxing.

Of course, the most appealing aspect is the campsite. The site is fully equipped, with public showers and a convenience store. You can choose to stay in a tent hotel or a forest cabin, or bring your own tent. Many people from Wuhan even drive their RVs here to camp, barbecue, and stargaze—it’s incredibly enjoyable!

PS: You can bring your own tent, barbecue equipment, and food.

3、Yuanji Temple Reservoir

Apart from Yaojia Mountain, some undeveloped reservoirs in Huangpi are also suitable for camping, like the Moon Lake I’m about to introduce.

The Moon Lake’s official name is Yuanji Temple Reservoir. It was named Moon Lake by hikers, and there are also the Sun Lake (Meidian Reservoir) and the Star Lake (Nihe Reservoir). Because the reservoirs are important water sources for the northern part of Huangpi, they haven’t been extensively developed. However, they still attract many hikers.

The environment here is beautiful and the water is clear. It’s an excellent place for camping, barbecuing, picnicking, and taking photos! You can choose a slightly elevated area to set up camp without polluting the environment. There are also ancient city ruins on nearby Dragon King Peak, along with vast meadows, offering breathtaking scenery. If you are interested, you can check it out.

Finally, I want to remind you that you should avoid camping randomly. You can camp near developed areas in the surrounding area to minimize pollution.

4、Nihe Reservoir

Star Lake is also a great place for relaxing camping and has become a popular spot for hikers, making it a new outdoor tourism destination in Wuhan.

Like Moon Lake, the ecological environment here is excellent, making it an ideal location for fishing, picnicking, and camping. Watching the stars and the Milky Way by the lake at night is incredibly romantic. There are also some mountains nearby, with wild chickens on some of them. Driving an off-road vehicle through the mountains, while paying attention to safety, is also a lot of fun.

Again, I want to emphasize that this is a natural environment. Please protect it. Camp in organized hiking areas and don’t randomly destroy the environment, especially regarding garbage. Be sure to take it with you.

Out of the three reservoirs, Meidian Reservoir is off-limits to tourism development, so it’s best not to go there. Moon Lake and Star Lake have specific designated areas for hikers to set up camp, along with small tourism projects. Avoid setting up camp near the water. You can camp a little further away. Remember to research before you go.

5、Yunjia Slow Country

You’ve tried outdoor camping, but have you ever experienced farm camping? On the shores of Liangzi Lake in Jiangxia, there’s a place called Yunjia Slow Country. It boasts a large farm, and camping there allows you to enjoy the tranquility of natural scenery while experiencing the joy of picking fruit. Importantly, it’s a newly developed area, so few people know about it, meaning you won’t be surrounded by crowds.

During the National Day holiday, you can bring your family here to pick fruits and vegetables together. Then, use the freshly picked ingredients to barbecue. In the evening, you can sit outside your tent with your family, watching the moon and stars, escaping the hustle and bustle of the city, and listening to the chirping of birds and insects. Just thinking about it is wonderful.

After a restful sleep, you’re not awakened by a mechanical and emotionless alarm clock, but by the beautiful singing of birds. You open your tent, breathe in the freshest morning air, and watch the gentle sunlight bathe the earth. This kind of life is truly intoxicating!
