2. Road conditions

Chengdu-Dujiangyan City: This section is 46 kilometers (expressway) in total, taking about 30 minutes.

Dujiangyan City-Yingxiu:

This section is the golden route of the Big Jiuzhaihuan Line. The road conditions in this section are poor. The road is not only narrow, but also has many bends and steep slopes, and the design is unreasonable. Up to 50,000 cars enter every day. If a car has a slight problem, it is easy to cause traffic jams, creating a huge traffic bottleneck. In addition, the Duwen Expressway and Zipingpu Reservoir are under construction, which has also greatly affected traffic, but there are traffic police on duty along the way, so it will not cause long-term congestion. It takes about 1 hour. This section of the road is also the starting point from the Chengdu Plain to the western Sichuan Plateau, with the altitude gradually increasing.

Yingxiu-Balang Mountain (east side):

Turn left from Yingxiu to enter the provincial road leading to Siguniang Mountain and Xiaojin. There are few cars and people on this section, and the whole section from Yingxiu to Xiaojin is a newly built cement road. After passing Yingxiu, the sky is bluer and the air is fresher. After passing Gengda, you will immediately enter the Wolong Nature Reserve, the scenery is even more beautiful, and the driving is very comfortable. The altitude of this section of road rises from about 1 kilometer to about 2 kilometers. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach Balang Mountain.

Balang Mountain (east side)-Rilong Town, Xiaojin County:

This section of road is passable all year round. The Wolong section of Balang Mountain has no guardrails, and the Balang Mountain Siguniang Mountain section has guardrails installed. When crossing Balang Mountain at an altitude of 4487 meters, most people experience mild altitude sickness. But appreciating the unique four wonders of Balang Mountain, the sea of clouds, meadows, snow peaks, and yaks, is also an effective way to reduce altitude sickness. The scenery along the way is beautiful, the scenery is pleasant, and the driving is comfortable. However, due to the many bends, steep slopes, and frequent fog in the Balang Mountain section, you need to drive cautiously. From an altitude of 2500 meters to 4487. Driving time is about 3 hours.

During the winter and spring seasons, there will be snow and thin ice at the top of Balang Mountain, and it will be difficult to pass, but drivers with mountain snow driving experience can pass normally.
