Shengsi Islands are free from the scorching summer heat and freezing winter, making it a perfect place for tourism. Many people may have been here, but the feelings Shengsi Islands bring to people are definitely not the same. A thousand people have a thousand Hamlets in their hearts, and so do Shengsi Islands.
In late June, I took a trip to Shengsi Islands
As for Shengsi Islands, a transfer island that exists in other travelogues,
Before I went, I had hesitation and struggle,
But the landlubber still has a little obsession with the seaside,
Plus Gan Girl’s mom has a little yearning for Shengsi, so let’s be the vanguard and explore it!
Mode of Transportation
This time, I chose to travel with a tour group, so I don’t have to worry about not being able to buy boat tickets, don’t have to plan routes, don’t have to huff and puff for more than 5 hours, just bring snacks and leave. But I got up early, got up at four o’clock to rush to the gathering point.
To be precise, I should be semi-self-service. The travel agency included travel expenses, meals, and accommodation. It cost less than a thousand yuan for three days. I personally feel that it is not expensive.
If you are traveling independently and driving yourself, navigate directly to Shenjiamen Wharf. There are passenger and cargo ferries. If your car is not going to the island, parking at the wharf parking lot costs 48 yuan/day; if you take your car to the island, you need to buy a ticket for a car and passenger ferry when you buy the ticket. One car costs 230 yuan. Tickets cannot be purchased in advance, only on-site tickets are accepted.
If you are traveling independently and departing from Shanghai, you can go to Shenjiawan Wharf to buy tickets. The route from Shanghai Railway Station is as follows: Take Metro Line 1 to People’s Square → transfer to Line 2 to Longyang Road → transfer to Line 16 to Dishui Lake Station → take Yangshan Line to Shenjiawan Wharf, Metro costs 10 yuan → Yangshan Line costs 14 yuan, a total of 24 yuan, and it took about 2.5 hours! The Yangshan Line runs every 50 minutes, and the journey takes about an hour. (Thanks to netizen ecoh’s strategy)
After arriving at Shenjiamen Wharf, it takes about 1 hour to sail from the wharf to Shengsi Islands. The specific time depends on the sea conditions that day.
Key Points:
When departing from Shengsi Islands, the journey is long. Departing from Zhenjiang, it takes 5 hours by car + 1 hour by boat. If you are traveling with a baby, for babies under 8 years old, it is not recommended to depart from Zhenjiang directly to Shengsi Islands. You can bring a Shanghai travel plan and spend 1 day on the island to play in the water, dig sand, and eat seafood; for children over 8 years old, you can choose any mode of transportation~
Ferry boats don’t have elevators or anything like that, so you have to carry your luggage yourself.
If you leave the car and passenger ferry, be sure to pay attention to safety. There are no barriers around the large ferry, so be careful with children on the boat. Because the high-speed passenger ship is very shaky, it is easy to get seasick. I don’t get carsick but I do get seasick, so not getting carsick doesn’t mean you won’t get seasick, so it’s safer to bring motion sickness medicine.

Accommodation
There are hotels and guesthouses on Shengsi Islands. I stayed in a guesthouse. The proprietress planted many flowers and plants at the door, and also prepared a large bird’s nest swing chair. Drinking tea, reading newspapers, and admiring flowers. The feeling of being away from the city and the slow pace of life seep into every detail.
There are no hotels on Shengsi Islands that focus on families, but some hotels on Ctrip offer round-trip ferry ticket booking services, and some hotels allow free entry to Jihu Beach. If you are traveling independently, moms, remember to ask clearly when booking.
Key Points:
The price of hotels on the island is still quite expensive. If possible, I recommend staying in a guesthouse. First, it’s cheaper. Second, there are many styles of guesthouses on the island, so there’s definitely one you’ll like. The more mature guesthouses in Shengsi Island are close to the beach, which is convenient for playing.
Because it is an island, the WiFi signal on the island is not very good. Please keep your mobile phone data traffic sufficient when you go to the island.
Food
The best time to visit Shengsi Islands is September and October each year, because seafood is more abundant at that time, but the price of accommodation and goods will rise sharply accordingly. I went there during the fishing ban period. Although there were not many varieties of fish and shrimp, I love scallops, clams, razor clams… so it didn’t affect me!
Shengsi Islands are not big, but there are everything you need on the island. There are supermarkets, fruit shops, cake shops, barbecue, rice noodle shops, etc. in the town, and the prices are a bit higher than those in the mainland, but within an acceptable range. After all, it is an island, so there is a cost of transportation.
My Suggestion:
It is better for a baby to travel in a guesthouse, so you can borrow the kitchen from the owner’s family. For a big child to travel, you need to consider the child’s eating habits, such as whether they like seafood? Will they be allergic? Although there is everything in the town center, it is still frustrating for people to watch but not let them eat.
Crab fried rice cakes and osmanthus corn are the specialties of the proprietress of our guesthouse. They are delicious and the children who came with us couldn’t stop eating them.
Play
Do you think the highlight is coming? Sorry, it drizzled for three days when I went. Fortunately, I had a burst of luck on the second day, otherwise, I wouldn’t have a travel guide for you.
Scenic Spots—Liujingtan, Heshangtao, Dabei Mountain
Liujingtan is the scenic spot that comes up when you search for Shengsi Islands online. It has a beautiful white lighthouse.
It is said that Heshangtao is similar to Liujingtan in terms of scenery, and Dabei Mountain is a place for incense burning. The team’s itinerary did not include these.
Taking photos at Liujingtan is still beautiful. Unfortunately, it was rainy when I went, so the blue sky was all retouched.
Beach—Jihu Beach
There are two beaches on Shengsi Islands, one is the paid Jihu Beach and the other is the free Tian’ao Beach (also called Donghai Fishing Village).
Jihu Beach has finer sand, while the sand on Tian’ao Beach is a bit rougher. The paid Jihu Beach has more mature facilities and higher playability, while the free Tian’ao Beach is suitable for digging sand and playing in the waves.
Self-entertainment—Cycling along the Left Bank Road
There is a coastal ecological landscape line in Shengsi Islands, which is 28 kilometers long. On one side is lush green mountains, and on the other side is sparkling blue sea. It is the essence of the beautiful island ecological beauty.
We stumbled upon this place… The meaning of travel is not about sunny or rainy days, but about being with like-minded people, having fun, and surprises waiting for you.
My Suggestion:
Liujingtan Scenic Area does not go back on itself, there are many steps and stone roads along the way. After seeing the lighthouse, you have to start the journey of trekking.
Liujingtan is also called the end of the road, which is the end of the land in Shengsi Islands. The wind is strong by the sea, so children should bring a jacket and mothers should try not to wear chiffon long dresses. The sea breeze is very flirtatious. Also, don’t wear high heels or other shoes that are not suitable for walking to visit the scenic area, it will be tiring.
To be honest, the sea in Shengsi is not very blue. I don’t have any thoughts about the beach, just dig some sand and take some photos.
In Shengsi, you must rent an electric car for self-driving (500 yuan deposit, 30 yuan/hour). You don’t have to deliberately find a destination, there are beautiful scenery everywhere, you may encounter the most beautiful ecological line like us, or you may encounter a mural fishing village, or other beautiful scenery. Just pull the throttle and go!
Final Thoughts
If it was a sunny day, I think Shengsi Islands would be 100 times more beautiful than what I saw before.
The local people are very simple. The grandpa I met told me what was the most delicious now. The owner of the small restaurant would delay closing time for us. The guy at the souvenir shop would help you haggle because you bought a lot of gifts. The big boss would tell you honestly that he accidentally overcharged you… Everything made me feel good about this island micro-city.
Traveling is always a beautiful thing.
The scenery along the way, the people and things you encounter on the road, will always leave a lasting impression on you or your child.
No matter where the destination is, travel with your children this summer~
