I. San Shan Dao Banbi Peak
Attractions: Banbi Peak, Sanfeng Temple. Banbi Peak is known as the first peak of Wu, painter Ya Ming once wrote a poem for this peak: “The history of Wu Yue’s war, this peak can bear witness. China is now united, Jiangnan enjoys peace.”
Transportation: Ferry to San Shan Dao.
Hiking: Relatively easy, Banbi Peak area has been developed into a park.
II. Yangshan Jianque Peak
Attractions: Jianque Peak, Xianglushishi, She Shen Cliff, Wenshu Temple Ruins, Cliff Inscriptions, “Tian Gou” Stone Pillar. Jianque Peak, the highest peak of Yangshan, is 338.2 meters above sea level, the second highest peak in Wu. There is a gap at the top of the peak to the north, about 10 meters wide. Legend has it that this gap was created by Qin Shi Huang shooting an arrow, so this peak is called Jianque Peak.
Transportation: There are buses from Suzhou Amusement Park to Yangshan Nursing Home.
Hiking: The mountain is deserted, and the road conditions are unclear.
Surrounding Crossing Routes: Bailongmu Temple (Yangnan) – Weituo Peak – Yangshan Halfway (Fenghuangling) – Changyun Peak (Cliff Inscriptions, four can still be seen clearly, including Wang Aojiao, Li Genyuan’s inscription) – Jianque Peak (She Shen Cliff, Xianglushishi, Yuriteting, Wenshu Temple Ruins) [Dayangshan] — Bailong Temple (Yangdong Mountain Foot, newly built, namely “Bailong Shengji”) – Baishanling – Hukeili – Jinziling [Xiaoyangshan] – The fork divides into two roads.
Route 1: Northwest to [Dashishan] – Shushan Ecological Park “Dashishengjing”, Yunquan Temple (newly built) — Jilongshan – Huguang River – Across the river is the real mountain (King Goujian’s Tomb) – Wushan – Baishishan.
Route 2: Northeast direction – Fenghuangshan – Guanshan (Guanshan Temple (newly built), Cliff Inscriptions: Guanshan, Laihe Peak, Xiandong, Jicui Peak, etc.).
III. Dongshan Yusun Peak
Attractions: Baogan Ancient Temple, Xumu Temple, Jiangnan Tea Culture Museum, Mianfochi, Mianfo Temple.
Take the bus to Chawan, Yusun Peak is approximately located south of Zijinan and Longtoushan (Fengshan), and east of Biloshan.
Hiking: The mountain is deserted, and the road conditions are unclear.
IV. Yushan Jianmen
Attractions: Jianmen Qishi. Jianmen is on the west side of Yushan, and overlooks Shang Lake from the top, with a panoramic view.
Transportation: It is located behind Xingfu Temple in Yushan, there are cars or cable cars to Jianmen.
Surrounding Crossing Routes: Yushan Zhongfeng (Weimo) – Jianmen – Sanfeng – Longdong.
Hiking: Relatively easy, it requires some physical effort if you don’t take the car.
V. Heyangshan
Attractions: Yongqing Temple (destroyed in 1958, rebuilt in 1993), Zhuangyuan Reading Platform, Xiufeng (Cliff Inscriptions). Heyangshan is in Zhangjiagang, it is called Fenghuangshan because the shape of Heyangshan is like a flying phoenix.
Transportation: From the city center, follow the Suyu Zhang line to Fenghuang Town.
Hiking: Relatively easy, if you only visit the temple.
VI. Zhangjiagang Xiangshan
Attractions: Tao Huajian, Xiangshan Temple, Caixiangjing, Shun Guo Tan, Fenghuotai, Zangjundong, Dixueran, Xianniubei, Laohuizui, Meihuatang, Shihumeng (between the two veins of Daxianshan and Xiaoxiangshan). It stands out among the mountains in southern Jiangsu with its long history and culture, beautiful natural scenery, and unique cultural landscape.
Transportation: From the city center, follow the Suyu Zhang line to Nansha Town, Zhangjiagang City.
Hiking: Relatively easy, if you only visit the temple. It is said that Shihumeng has been paved with an artificial cement road.
VII. Guangfu Tongjingshan, Xuanmushan
Among them: Beitongkeng, Nantongjing, are actually two veins of the same mountain. Ancient people said: Tongjingshan is the best place to watch Taihu Lake. Tianshou Sheng’en Chan Temple is a famous Buddhist temple, a royal temple in ancient times.
Attractions: Tongjing, Tianshou Temple (newly built a few Zen rooms on the ruins), Sheng’en Temple, Real and Fake Mountains.
Tongjingshan: Relatively easy, hike up the mountain along the fire road.
Sheng’en Temple: Soldiers at the entrance require ID cards for entry, sometimes they do not allow entry. Except for the 9th day of the first lunar month, which is relatively lively, it is usually very quiet. Sheng’en Temple can also be reached by crossing from the back of Dengwei Mountain to Sheng’en Temple in Xuanmushan.
Transportation: Take the bus to Guangfu Passenger Transportation Center (e.g. take bus No. 43 or 63 from Wuzhong Bus Station to Guangfu), then transfer to bus (bus No. 652 to “Bingying”).
VIII. Yaofengshan Giant Stone Array
Attractions: Giant Stone Array, Longdong, Xilongdong, Guanyinbi, Xiangquan, Fa Jiabuan, Tushuiyuan Ruins. Yaofengshan has a reputation for “splendid beauty among the Wu”. Legend has it that during the time of Emperor Yao, floods flooded the mountains, but this mountain remained unaffected, allowing the Wu people to take refuge and survive, hence the name Yaofeng, also known as Yaofengshan.
Transportation: First arrive at Wanshan Scenic Area, then go through Aidangling to Yaofeng. Or go from Qizi Mountain Fire Road to Yaofeng.
Hiking: Moderate difficulty, with a lot of weeds.
