Self-driving route
1. West entrance route through Wild Fox Ridge: Badaling – East Fifth Ring Road – Badaling Expressway – Xuanhua – Zhangjiakou – Zhangshi Expressway – Zhangbei South Toll Station Exit – Wild Fox Ridge – Wind Power Farm – West entrance of Grassland Sky Road. Now the Wild Fox Ridge entrance is open, so this route is simple and straightforward, the road signs are clear, and it is easier to drive.
After exiting the highway at Wild Fox Ridge, there is a “Lu’an Petrochemical” gas station on the right, fill up the tank. Drive all the way to Huapiling, there is no gas station along the way.
You can also reach it via G207 from Zhangjiakou, but some sections of the road are under construction, so it is not recommended to drive.
2. East entrance route through Huapiling: Badaling – East Fifth Ring Road – Badaling Expressway – Zhangjiakou – Zhangcheng Expressway – Chongli – S242 Provincial Highway – Huapiling – East entrance of Grassland Sky Road. The highway can only reach Chongli, after getting off the highway, you need to take S242, which is a provincial highway with many villages along the way. Pay attention to the speed limit. It takes about 1 hour after getting off the highway to reach the East entrance of Grassland Sky Road.

1. Huapiling Scenic Area
Huapiling Scenic Area is the starting point of Zhangbei section of Grassland Sky Road at kilometer 0. It is located in the Damaqun Mountains, the remnants of the Yanshan Mountains, at the junction of Chongli County, Bashan, Hebei Province and Zhangbei County, Bashang, 30 kilometers from Chongli County and 290 kilometers from Beijing. The altitude ranges from 1900 meters to 2128.7 meters, with the highest altitude at 2128.7 meters, it is the highest peak in West Beijing and is known as “Zitianshan”, making it an ideal summer resort.
2. Xiaoyuan Shanzi Scenic Spot
Located at kilometer 67.7 of Grassland Sky Road, Xiaoyuan Shanzi is located 11 kilometers southeast of Xiao’ertai Township. It is located in the hills, named Xiaoyuan Shanzi because it is located next to a small round mountain. It is a popular tourist attraction in 2014 and an ideal location for building car camps, barbecue camps and camping sites.
3. Dahao River Mountain Viewing Platform
Located at kilometer 88 of Grassland Sky Road, it is the best viewing platform for the landscape of the Sky Road and is currently under expansion. 4. Jiguan Mountain
Located at kilometer 109 of Grassland Sky Road, it now has a watchtower, viewing platform, plank road, and accommodation groups, with a total investment of 25 million yuan. It is named after its peak resembling a “chicken crown”. In ancient times, there were temples built on the mountainside, mostly for ancestor worship, burning incense, and praying for health and well-being. There is a Jiguan Mountain viewing platform built in recent years at the foot of the mountain, where tourists can take photos and leave their footprints.
5. Nantang Scenic Spot
Located at the midpoint of the 100-kilometer east section of Grassland Sky Road, 50 kilometers from the midpoint, it was originally a Nantang wetland and was a popular place for tourists to rest and dine in 2014. It is currently under planning and is planned to build a wetland fishing park and other leisure tourism projects.
6. Xiaonanwa Scenic Spot
Located at kilometer 86 of Grassland Sky Road, it is a popular gathering place for tourists. The “Flower Field and Grass Sea” next to the scenic spot is a key ecological tourism project built by Zhangbei County, integrating planting resources and strengthening tourism routes. Artificial planting of crops has created golden rapeseed flowers, sunflowers, purple sesame flowers, white potato flowers, as well as lavender, Gesang flowers, and seven-color flower fields, forming a paradise of flowers and a sea of grass, which, under the backdrop of blue sky and white clouds, together with the surrounding mountains, valleys, plains, and villages, forms the unique flower sea grassland scenery of Bashang.
