3. Tour Strategy

The East Market of Tang City is designed to be free-flowing, with winding and twisting streets. Due to the high concentration of nobility in the east of the city in the early days, the East Market was also bustling with commerce. After the Silk Road opened, merchants from the Western Regions flocked to the West Market, surpassing the East Market in prosperity. Today, when we go shopping at the supermarket, we usually say we’re going to buy “things”, not “north and south”, which originates from the time of the Tang Dynasty, when the East Market and the West Market were the marketplaces.

The buildings in the East Market are all low-rise, rather crowded, and somewhat cluttered. The Qinglong Temple on the other side of the bridge is built into the mountainside, staggered and layered. Without the Rainbow Bridge, it would appear plain and abrupt. However, with the addition of the Rainbow Bridge, the layering effect is immediately apparent. The Rainbow Bridge adjusts the rise and fall of the buildings, adding a unique visual effect, combining movement and stillness, balancing the levels of the landscape, and highlighting the picturesque beauty of Tang City.

Across the bridge is Qinglong Temple. Historically, Qinglong Temple was built in the second year of Emperor Wen of Sui, initially called “Linggan Temple”. During the reign of Emperor Rui Zong of Tang, it was renamed “Qinglong Temple” and became a royal temple for protecting the country. It is the ancestral temple of Chinese Esoteric Buddhism. The Qinglong Temple in Tang City is based on the historical original and faithfully recreates it.
