Speaking of Zhoushan, everyone will think of the various islands here. The largest island is Zhoushan Island. Because there are so many islands here, in various forms, it has become a must-visit place for tourists to visit and travel.

Zhoushan is a large archipelago.

Because my grandmother lives here, I spend my summers in this city.

My footsteps are also embarking on a new journey.

For Zhoushan, the most comfortable season is undoubtedly summer, you don’t need an air conditioner.

A fan is enough to spend the summer that is already unbearably hot in other places.

The wind here in Zhoushan is very strong.

This makes the air here very good. The circulating air rarely experiences stuffy weather.

Therefore, Zhoushan is undoubtedly a summer resort.

Zhoushan has the famous Putuoshan, Zhujiajian, Taohua Island, Liu Heng… many, many islands. In my opinion, the most famous is Putuoshan with its Guanyin Daochang, which is famous both at home and abroad; there is also Zhujiajian with its sand sculptures; and Taohua Island, written by Jin Yong. The smallest inhabited island is Ant Island, and the largest island is Zhoushan Island, which consists of Shenjiamen and Dinghai.

Zhoushan is divided into two districts and two counties: Dinghai, Putuo, Daishan, Shengsi, etc. The whole city has 1390 islands, large and small. According to the fifth national census, there are 103 inhabited islands, including 11 islands with a population of over 10,000. The entire island group is arranged in a northeast direction. The southern islands are more numerous, higher in altitude, and densely arranged. The northern islands are mostly small, lower in altitude, and scattered; the main islands include Zhoushan Island, Daishan Island, Putuoshan Island, Zhujiajian Island, Liu Heng Island, Jintang Island, Taohua Island, Shengsi Islands, etc., among which Zhoushan Island is the largest, with an area of 502 square kilometers, making it the fourth largest island in China.

Gouqi Island Gouqi Island is located in the eastern part of the Shengsi Islands and is the second largest island in the archipelago. The eastern end of the island has the charming Gouqi Beach; the southern cliffs have scenic spots such as Xiao Xitian, the “Shanhai Qiguang” stele, Mazu Temple, Tiger Stone, Jiaolong Chushui, and Daoshabe. Gouqi Island was originally named after the wild growth of wolfberry on the mountain. Now, the island farms a large amount of marine organisms, especially mussels (Mytilus edulis), with a large annual output. The mussel meat is delicious and contains a large amount of protein and eight amino acids, known as “sea eggs”, with high nutritional value. Climbing the mountain to admire the sea and tasting seafood makes the island increasingly popular. There are also two golden beaches, one in the southeast and one in the southwest of the island, each about 600 meters long, waiting to be developed.

Departing from Sijiao Island, take a boat at the Xiaocàyuan Pier in Caiyuan Town (Location: Wulong Township at the foot of Dabei Mountain). 1. “Shengxiang No. 2” (Full ticket 46 yuan): Departs at 7:40. When the date is an odd number, it stops at Gouqi Island on the way, allowing you to get off and go to the island. The journey is three hours. 2. Speedboat “Maosheng No. 6” (Ticket price 62 yuan): Departs at 15:30 and arrives at Shengshan Island directly after one hour. After arriving at Shengshan Island, you can take a ferry (ticket price 9 yuan) to Gouqi Island, which takes about 10 minutes, with frequent departures; you can also rent a small fishing boat to Gouqi Island from Shengshan Island. The minimum price per boat is 15-20 yuan, and you need to haggle. The best time to travel from Gouqi to Shengshan is to take the 1 pm ferry, otherwise you have to wait until 4 pm for the next one. Local people usually travel in the morning, with a ferry leaving every hour in the morning.

The Dongya Cliff is steep and towering, majestic, and still seems to bear the marks of being chopped by a sword. A solitary rock rises in the middle of the cliff, facing the sea. Standing on the edge of the cliff, looking down, the cliffs are towering and layered, with strange reefs and rocks, each with its own unique form.

Among them, the junction of the two beaches, Nanchangtu and Gaocang Bay, is where the cliffs stand like a stone gate, called the Big and Small Longyan Stone. The black pines on the shore are deep and secluded, with layers of green overlapping. Especially when the setting sun shines, the blue sea is slightly tinged with gold, the quiet sand and floating islands are full of poetic and picturesque beauty. This scenery is known as the famous “Changtu Sunset”. Traffic: From Jihu, take the road eastward, turn a mountain bend and you will see a small sign that says “Gaocang Bay”. Standing here, you can see the beach. Turn left at the sign and go down the slope, and you will see a gate with the words “Mermaid” written on it, and you will have arrived.

You can go fishing in the small streams along the way.

Nanchangtu Beach Nanchangtu Beach is located in the middle bay on the south side of Shengsi Island, with a small islet in front of the beach. The beach surface is clean and soft, milky yellow, sparkling like a crescent moon embedded between the blue sea and green hills.

Shengshan Town is the main fishing port and market of the entire Zhoushan fishing ground. Shengshan Island is the easternmost large island in the Zhoushan archipelago, facing Gouqi Island across the sea. There are many ferries going back and forth between the two islands. In addition to the ferries to and from Sijiao Island, there are also daily ferries to Shenjiamen and Ningbo, departing from Xiangzi’ao Pier. Shengshan → Shenjiamen, departure time: 8:00, third-class ticket price: 101 yuan (Qiguan Wheel); Shengshan → Ningbo, departure time: 7:50, third-class ticket price: 143 yuan (Shengxiang No. 2). In addition, there are fishing boats going to Shanghai, which will also carry passengers on the way. They usually stop at the Jiangpu Road Pier in Yangshupu. The ticket price is 50-80 yuan. When you arrive at the ferry pier (Dayuwan Pier) from Gouqi Island to Shengshan Island, you will be approached by boat owners to ask if you are going to Shanghai. However, this line to Shanghai is unreliable, as it is mostly based on luck. The fishing boat is very bumpy, and you may get seasick.

Best season: July-September is the best time to travel to Shengsi.
At this time, the Shengsi Islands are full of beautiful scenery, with azure waters, making it the most beautiful time of year. At the end of July, the Shengsi Mussel Cultural Festival is grandly held on Siu Island, adding another brilliant sight to the archipelago.
The first and fifteenth lunar days are high tides. At this time, the sea water rises, the waves are rolling, and the scenery is spectacular. But this period is the peak season for typhoons, so it is best to pay attention to weather forecasts when traveling to the islands.

This is a traditional wooden sailboat. The bow is painted with a dragon’s head, which looks like two half-open goat horns, a characteristic of Zhoushan fishing boats, known as “open horns”; the stern is carved with patterns of the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea, Journey to the West, etc., commonly known as “flower buttocks”, which is a Fujian boat type. The boat is a reconstruction of the representative boat type of Zheng He’s voyages to the West, which was popular in the area between Fujian and Zhejiang in ancient times. Therefore, it combines the characteristics of boat types from both regions.

When the figures and events of the age of navigation are gradually buried by time, those surviving, or artificially resurrected, ancient sailing ships become a symbol of a spirit.
