Xi’an is a city full of historical accumulation and opportunities. Everything here carries a sense of ancient simplicity and time. In the face of the fading legacy of the Qin and Tang dynasties, many people feel a lot of emotion. Below, we share the best itinerary, time, and season for Xi’an travel.
You can arrive in Xi’an and find a hotel on Meituan. Find a hotel near the Bell Tower. There are many hotels and hostels near the Bell Tower, and the prices are not too expensive. Whether you are traveling alone or with a family, you can find a suitable one. The advantage of this is that you can see the Bell Tower both during the day and at night, and Muslim Street is near the Bell Tower, so it is very convenient to travel.
You can also visit the Drum Tower by the way. The Bell Tower is the center of Xi’an, and the transportation there is very developed. Whether it is the subway or bus, it is very developed. You can take a car to wherever you go. But personally, I don’t like the fact that there are so many people there every day, basically all tourists.
Day 1: Small Wild Goose Pagoda, Shaanxi History Museum, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Daming Palace, Bell Tower
In the morning, you can take the bus or subway to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda from the Bell Tower. Show your ID card to get a free ticket and visit for 1 hour. Although the ticket is free, you will need to pay for special attractions inside. You can choose the price when you go there, or you can look it up online in advance (tickets are usually combined online).
Then take a car to the Shaanxi History Museum. You can book tickets in advance on the official website (tickets are usually combined online, and you can get a free ticket at the History Museum with your ID card). There is a special ticket collection point for online booking at the museum entrance, with no queues. If you collect tickets on-site, you will need to queue for an hour. Visiting time is 1.5-2 hours.
Walk for about ten minutes from the History Museum to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. There are many places to eat there. After lunch, visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, preferably spending 3 hours there because there are quite a lot of interesting things there. You can check online in the evening. There is a music fountain there, currently the largest in Asia. There are performances every day, which are particularly beautiful. You can calculate the time and go and appreciate it. We have also previously shared a performance schedule for the Big Wild Goose Pagoda music fountain. Interested friends can check it out.
Then walk for about ten minutes to Daming Palace. If you arrive at 3:30 pm, you can play until 7:30 pm, then take the bus to Muslim Street, which costs about 20 yuan. Eat snacks, and when you come out of Muslim Street, you will see the Bell Tower. See the night view, it is very beautiful.
Day 2: Daming Palace Ruins Park, Xi’an City Wall, Forest of Steles Museum
Go to Daming Palace Ruins Park in the morning and play for about two hours. It is probably 11 am. Daming Palace Ruins Park is very large. If you want to tour all of it, including the paid attractions inside, it will take at least half a day. If you are short on time, you can speed up. There are sightseeing buses there. You can take them when you are tired. There are free attractions outside. You can rent a bicycle and ride, such as the popular Ofo and Mobike.
In the afternoon, take a car to the Xi’an City Wall. It is best to go to Yongning Gate and take a tour. Walk east from Yongning Gate to Wenchang Gate, next to which is the Forest of Steles Museum. It is recommended to spend an hour or two visiting it in the evening. If you are short on time, it is best to choose to take the subway for transportation, because the bus is slow and sometimes crowded, which takes a long time. Get off the subway and ride a yellow bike.
After coming out of the Forest of Steles Museum, if you have time, you can go up the City Wall from the south gate and have a look. If you go to Xi’an, you definitely need to experience this.
Regarding food, you can learn more about it in advance on Wangshan. There are many Xi’an delicacies, all over the city, not just Muslim Street. If you want to eat delicious food, check Meituan or Baidu Maps, and there are restaurants everywhere on the street. You will definitely not go hungry.
