Phuket Taboos, What Country is Phuket in, and What to Prepare for a Trip to Phuket

This trip was mainly prepared for our child. Almost all of my friends have been to Phuket, and my daughter has heard so much about it that she often asks, “Mom, when are we going to Phuket?” Finally, on a bright and sunny afternoon, we confirmed this trip. The child is still very happy. Taking children to see the world can not only broaden their horizons, but also make their thinking more jumpy, which is a good thing for them. Therefore, the three of us finally came to Phuket.

Day 1 Travel Log

Nanjing to Phuket, the flight time is good, flying at noon and arriving at night. We drove to the airport in the morning, and the first thing we did when we arrived at the departure hall was to go to the counter to collect the WiFi device. It was done in 2 minutes. We waited patiently for security check and boarding.

We boarded the plane smoothly. The flight took about 5 hours. It was operated by Lion Air, a Thai low-cost airline. But I want to say that in terms of facilities, catering and service, it is not inferior to domestic economy class at all. Especially the pilot’s driving skills are top-notch. The whole process is steady and the landing is smooth. Mobile phones can be used in flight mode, so I took some photos of the blue sky and white clouds.

We arrived at the airport at 6 pm local time in Thailand. A special person picked us up and took us to the hotel. It took more than an hour to drive from the airport to the Patong hotel. The travel agency chose the Fishermen’s Harbour Urban Resort, which has good online reviews. It is a very new hotel, said to have opened in 2015, and the facilities are very complete.

Most importantly, there is a lively night market downstairs! So we dropped our luggage and went out to eat and shop!

Don’t forget to take mosquito repellent measures before going out. We first went to the drugstore at the hotel entrance to buy mosquito repellent. Our first dinner started with traditional Tom Yum Soup, pineapple fried rice, morning glory, stir-fried clams, of course, various fruit shakes, Mido’s ice cream, two adults and one child had full stomachs, carrying small bananas and mangosteen, walking back to the hotel to wash and rest in a big eight character step. The meal cost about 800 baht, we didn’t calculate it carefully, we came here to relax anyway, so it’s almost the same.

Overall, Phang Nga Bay is about taking a short speedboat to see the scenery on various islands. The weather is quite good, generally cloudy, and the photos taken are all beautiful. The highlight of the afternoon was riding an elephant. This was strongly requested by Mido, but the elephant was really a bit pitiful. Simon Show at night lived up to its reputation. The lighting, stage design, and beauties are all first-class. It’s a formal performance, Mido also thought it was quite good. Our seats were VIP, right in the middle of the first row. Mido’s father had the foresight to let Mido sit on his lap, avoiding the “salty pig hands” of the various female actors. Today’s lunch was very ordinary, it was included in the itinerary, but it was enough to eat. We had dinner at the small stalls near the Simon Show. The barbecue tasted really good. The cost was basically the same, around 700. We went back to the hotel at around 9 o’clock and went to bed after washing up.

It was the rainy season in Thailand in June, and it rained as soon as we woke up in the morning. There was no other way, we could only wait for the rain to subside before going to Jungceylon to shop for souvenirs. The tuk-tuks in Phuket are quite expensive, basically starting at 200 baht. When we arrived at the Robinson department store in Jungceylon, we couldn’t help but buy some Lee clothes, which cost more than 300 yuan per piece, but it was acceptable. We bought various snacks and medicines as souvenirs in the supermarket. It is worth mentioning that we bought a pair of traditional Thai pants for Mido’s mom and Mido, which immediately made them feel more grounded!

Swensens and DQ are legendary ice creams, Mido wouldn’t miss any of them.

In the evening, we gathered with friends who came to Thailand together to go to the Banzaan Seafood Market on the other side, buying seafood on the first floor and getting it cooked on the second floor. We had a big feast. The price is about the same as that of Huangsha in Guangzhou, but it is fresher. Traveling is about completing must-see tourist destinations. Overall, everyone was very satisfied. Five people ate about 1300 yuan. We had cheese-baked lobster, salt-and-pepper prawns, stir-fried clams, garlic-flavored scallops, curry flower crab. I won’t mention the other drinks and vegetables.

We were worried about the weather all along, safety is important. It was mostly cloudy in the morning, and we went to Phi Phi Island for a quick tour, then prepared for snorkeling in Maya Bay. It was Mido’s first time snorkeling, it wasn’t perfect, but her courage was commendable! The piece of bread Mido’s dad brought was very useful. The fish kept bumping into our hands and feet. Mido, who was a bit scared at first, was very excited, she kept happily holding her breath and going underwater to watch the fish. 45 minutes passed too quickly. The tour guide asked everyone to get on the boat soon. We didn’t get enough time! I have to mention here that the GoPro we rented from Bluefish on Taobao played a huge role. We captured the underwater fish and Mido, leaving us with beautiful memories. It wouldn’t have been possible with a mobile phone.

Then we went to Mosquito Island. As soon as we got off the boat, there was a heavy storm. We could only take shelter from the rain for an hour… When the rain subsided a bit, the captain asked everyone to get on the boat and go back. We were very nervous, but we pretended to be calm, pretending to be the seagull facing the storm, returning home. Luckily, we returned safely, basically drenched, cold, cold, cold! As soon as we got off the car back to the hotel, we took a hot shower. Luckily, we all survived and didn’t get sick! Thinking back to that day, it was still very interesting, because riding a boat on a stormy sea and not getting seasick was really a unique experience!

We rested for a while in the evening and rented a motorcycle. Following the guide, we found a hotel to eat at. The price-performance ratio was super high. The name was Kaab. The fresh oysters were a favorite of Mido’s father. Other local dishes were also unforgettable. The key is that the price is cheap to the point of being touching! A whole table of dishes only cost 1100 baht!

The sky is clear! We must apply enough sunscreen. We went to the hotel swimming pool in the morning to play and pose. At noon, we rode the rented scooter along the coastline to Chalong Temple. After visiting it, we went around Kata Beach. The sun was too strong, so we went back to the hotel swimming pool to play in the water and cool down. The sun was setting, so we rode the scooter to Patong Beach. Our friends went jet skiing and got soaked. We just lay down. Unable to resist the temptation, Mido and her father went to experience parasailing, ending this trip perfectly.

In the EndThis semi-self-guided tour was basically a free-and-easy, unorganized and undisciplined type, so there was no strict itinerary or budget. Thailand is a place suitable for relaxation and rest, and it is also a suitable place for family trips. The total cost was about 20,000 yuan, for a family of three. It is suitable to exchange about 10,000 baht. If it’s not enough, don’t be afraid, there are many small kiosks that exchange RMB for baht everywhere. If it’s not enough, exchange it, and then spend it, haha.

We hope to grow with Mido, and take her to see as many different aspects of the world as possible with our own eyes!

【Preparations before Traveling】

1、Seasickness Medicine (Important! Important! Important!)

(1) Thai seasickness medicine, for adults, seems to have a side effect of drowsiness.

(2) Korean Elephant Seasickness Patch, for adults, not recommended for children. Apply behind the ears, convenient and effective.

(3) Children’s Seasickness Medicine, can be taken by children over 3 years old, personally tested by Mido and it is effective.

2、Sunscreen (Important! Important! Important!)

Although the purpose of going to the beach is to sunbathe, in order to prevent Mido from getting sunburned, and Mido’s parents from getting sunburnt, and to avoid unnecessary commotion, we still need to do a good job of sun protection. Recommended combination:

Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Milk + Shiseido Senka Perfect UV Sunscreen SPF 50+ PA++++ + Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Spray + Anessa Baby Mild UV Sunscreen

(You can find them on Taobao.)

3、Communication Devices

JD.com special offer 7-day Happy Card + Taobao Global Roaming Portable WiFi

Portable WiFi is free of deposit with Sesame Credit, and it is also very convenient to pick it up at the airport. It solves all your online problems for 100 yuan.

4、Photography Equipment

Mobile phone + GoPro + SLR

I especially want to mention the GoPro rental services provided online, which is really convenient. I chose the highly rated Bluefish underwater camera rental service on Taobao, and chose the latest Black Dog 5. They came with a bunch of free accessories: spare batteries, deep diving cases, selfie sticks, octopus tripods and so on. It suddenly made me feel like a professional! Haha!

5、Swimming Equipment

The three of us are all landlubbers, but we still love the ocean, so we brought swimsuits, swimming goggles, snorkeling suits, snorkeling glasses. We can swim with Mido in the hotel swimming pool too!
