Read on to find out!

1. Sightseeing Guide

Visiting the Great Wall tunnel and the city bridge, as well as climbing the Great Wall, are the highlights of the Jiukou Pass Great Wall scenic area. Half a day is enough for a visit. Once inside the scenic area, head towards the city bridge and follow the signs to visit the Great Wall tunnel. The tunnel is one kilometer long, with the exit leading directly to the outside of the Great Wall. It was built by a Ming Dynasty general for soldiers to secretly flank the enemy. Now, you can see stone rooms used as training rooms, kitchens, command centers, and armories in the tunnel. The scenic area has also placed some bronze soldiers inside to recreate the ancient scene.

After visiting the tunnel, return the same way and arrive at the city bridge. Climb up the wide city bridge via the stairs and you will see the huge dungeon and embrasures on both sides of the passage, with the Jiujiang River flowing slowly through the gate hole beneath your feet. This tall and sturdy city bridge is both a bridge across the river and a part of the Great Wall. This water fortress is an important gateway between the inner and outer areas. From 1922 to 1924, the Zhili and Fengtian warlords fought a fierce battle here.

Continuing up the mountain from the city bridge, you will find the Great Wall similar to the Badaling Great Wall, stretching endlessly along the mountain ridge. This section of the Great Wall in the scenic area has been restored, so you can walk steadily on the sturdy stone path and also enter several watchtowers for a look. However, due to the long history of the Great Wall and its many battles, the “wild Great Wall” in the distance is already in ruins and cannot be accessed. You can only gaze at these historical scars quietly lying on the mountain ridge.

There are also small attractions such as the Rare Bird Viewing Garden and the Cishen Temple inside the scenic area. During the flood season, you can also go boating on the Jiujiang River. In addition, the Jiukou Pass Great Wall scenic area is not far from the Suizhong Dongdai River tourist area and is also relatively close to the Shanhaiguan Pass in Qinhuangdao. It is usually combined with these two places for a tour. Especially during the months of May to September, it is very pleasant to walk on the beach here, eat seafood, and then climb the Great Wall.
