A song about Dali has attracted countless people who want to experience its story. Everyone who has been to Erhai Lake says that it’s a place that can purify one’s soul. The azure water and clean air have made the noses of those who are used to the smog in the city feel infinitely clear. So how should you spend a single day in Erhai Lake? If you want to know, follow me and keep reading!
When the long-awaited Dali comes into view, the “Tianlong Babu” from martial arts novels, the Prince Duan of the Dali Kingdom, the old legends of the Nanzhao Kingdom, and the most amazing things are the Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake. A good saying, “Cangshan Mountain doesn’t need ink to paint for thousands of years, Erhai Lake doesn’t need strings to play music for eternity,” perfectly describes the magnificent beauty of Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake.
Having experienced the pure fun of a day trip around Erhai Lake, we walked from the ancient city to the Longkan Wharf, boarded a dragon boat to the opposite Tianjing Pavilion. On the boat, you can appreciate the vastness and tranquility of Erhai Lake. In the cabin, you can also enjoy the Bai minority folk dance performances. The Bai minority girls who dance are absolutely beautiful. During this time, you can also taste the Bai minority three-course tea. It’s truly a feast for the eyes, the palate, and the soul.
The performance is perfectly timed. As it ends, we arrive at the shore without any interruption. The transition is seamless. After we disembark, we walk up the path, step by step, approaching the Tianjing Pavilion, where you can climb to the top to overlook Erhai Lake. You can take an elevator to the top, but it costs 10 yuan per person.
I have to say, the view from there is truly breathtaking, offering an unobstructed panorama.
On the way back, we prepare for a short bike ride. This is the most beautiful coastline of Erhai Lake. We ride along the east side of the lake, stopping and taking photos along the way. The photographer acts as our leader and is also responsible for taking travel photos for everyone.
Cycling with the refreshing breeze of Erhai Lake blowing in our faces, we feel relaxed and at peace. After parking our bikes, we sit by the lake and pick up a pebble, throwing it into the water. The small stone, as if it had practiced water-skimming, spins in the air before sinking into the lake. At that moment, we feel like we’re back in our childhood. Travel always brings unexpected joy and beauty.
Not far from the Small Putuoshan, we switch from bicycles to cars and continue our journey. We stop at the Small Putuoshan to take photos. The shape of the Small Putuoshan is quite impressive. There are many snacks on the roadside, and of course, we have to take a group photo. Our journey must go on.
In a relaxed and leisurely manner, we move from one place to another. We arrive at the Zhoucheng Tie-dyeing Village, a place where you can experience tie-dyeing. Before coming here, I had only heard and seen tie-dyeing, but I had no idea how it was done. But here, through the experience, the novelty, and the fun, I truly had a delightful time.
The Bai minority auntie asked my mom to choose a pattern, and she taught us how to tie the cloth strips. Initially, we had no idea what we were doing. But everyone in each group was tying the cloth strips, so we followed suit. Gradually, we understood what it was all about. The most important thing is that after ten minutes, we saw that the cloth we had participated in dyeing had turned from white to blue, and it had a tie-dye pattern. The sense of accomplishment from that experience is indescribable, and our surprised faces were captured in photos.
Leaving Zhoucheng Tie-dyeing Village, drizzle starts to fall. As we reach Xizhou Ancient Town, we suddenly stop. It seems like fate is on our side. It’s said that Xizhou Ancient Town is a model of delicious food and Bai minority architecture. We come here to verify it. The taste of Xizhou Baba is quite good. Some say it’s Dali pizza, which is a very apt description. The key is that it’s delicious and satisfying.
Xizhou ice pops, homemade yogurt, baked milk fan, grilled rice cakes, and Xizhou snacks can all satisfy your cravings. The Yan Family Courtyard is a prime example of Bai minority architecture in Dali. The three rooms, one screen wall, four courtyards, and five wells all demonstrate the rich culture of the Bai minority architecture. The tranquil Xizhou Ancient Town encompasses both the cultural and culinary experiences.
What woman doesn’t love flowers? Women are like flowers, fragrant and beautiful. Photo shoots in the flower sea are a special treat for girls and a photographic task for guys. They’re either being photographed or taking pictures of the girls. That day, the girls were immersed in the world of lavender, enjoying beautiful photo shoots, while the boys were hanging around near the off-road vehicles. Of course, as soon as the girls gave the command, phones and cameras had to follow suit, snapping, snapping, snapping. Their hands couldn’t tremble, their hearts couldn’t soften, and the photos had to be beautiful.
Many people were taking photos with the grass mud horses that day, and there were also many couples taking wedding photos, and some people were taking advantage of the opportunity to join in. The weather was perfect that day, as if the heavens were favoring us. It rained a little when it was time to rest and eat, and it was sunny when it should be. The friends we traveled with were all very lovely and friendly, and we joked and laughed throughout the day. Before saying goodbye, we told each other to stay in touch and share anything we could.
The sun hasn’t set yet, and our one-day itinerary is coming to an end. The purely fun experience is the most enjoyable. The pace of the trip around Erhai Lake is not too fast or too slow, everything is just right. The Erhai Lake under the wind, flowers, snow, and moon has brought us a day of joy.
Looking back on this day, we had a boat ride and tea, we climbed high and looked down, we rode bikes by the lake, we took group photos, we experienced tie-dyeing, we enjoyed the food and culture, we had a photo shoot in the flower sea, everything was just right. If possible, we would do it all again, wouldn’t we?
