Inner Mongolia in winter is incredibly beautiful, making it a top travel destination for the autumn and winter seasons. In addition to stunning scenery, Inner Mongolia is home to a number of ski resorts around Hohhot that can satisfy all your winter needs. The ski resorts surrounding Hohhot are very famous, some of them even serve as training bases for national snow sports.
Zhalantun Jinlongshan Ski Resort
The Jinlongshan Tourist Area is located 8 kilometers northwest of Zhalantun City. The area covers 100 hectares, with the mountain reaching 582 meters above sea level and a vertical drop of 200 meters. The terrain is excellent for skiing, with significant undulations. The average winter temperature in the area is -12℃, making it ideal for outdoor activities. It’s located in the same latitude as famous European ski resorts, making it one of the best ski resorts in China. The Jinlongshan Ski Resort was built in 2009. There are six ski runs for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers, as well as a “U” shaped pool that meets international standards, a snow surfing area, and a snow entertainment area.
In 2010, after the construction of the “U” shaped pool, top skiers from the national snowboard team, including Liu Jiayu, the snowboard halfpipe world cup overall champion and world championship champion, Sun Zhifeng and Cai Xue, the world cup overall champions, gathered here for training. The “National Youth Snowboard Halfpipe Championship” and “National Snowboard Halfpipe Championship” have been successfully held here for two consecutive years, and the “2013-2015 National Snowboard Halfpipe Championship” will also be held here.
In 2012, during the 4th Zhalantun Jinlongshan Ski Festival, the Jinlongshan Ski Resort was designated as the “Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Winter Sports Training Base” and the “Hulunbuir University Ice and Snow Teaching Training Base”. In December 2012, the Zhalantun Jinlongshan Ski Festival and the National Snowboard Halfpipe Championship were selected by the State General Administration of Sport and the China National Tourism Administration as China’s sports tourism boutique projects for 2012. In June 2014, the “National Snowboard Halfpipe Team Training Base,” the “Freestyle Skiing Aerials Team Training Base,” and the “Freestyle Skiing Moguls Team Training Base” were established at the Jinlongshan Ski Resort.
Hohhot Daqingshan Taiwei Ski Resort
The Daqingshan Taiwei Ski Resort is located within the beautiful Daqingshan Taiwei Tourism and Leisure Resort in the New District of Hohhot. The resort covers over 3,000 acres, with lush green mountains and water, dense trees, and picturesque scenery. The ski resort is located at the foot of the Daqingshan Mountains in the northwestern part of the resort, seamlessly integrated with other facilities like the Hohhot Taiwei Golf Course and the clubhouse. It is the closest, largest, and most fully equipped ski resort to Hohhot.
The Taiwei Ski Resort covers nearly 60,000 square meters of snowmaking area, with over 3,000 square meters of comprehensive service facilities. The beginner and intermediate ski runs are built along the mountain, in accordance with international standards and the characteristics of the Chinese physique, with a total length of over 1,000 meters. The ski resort boasts advanced entertainment facilities and functional zoning to meet the needs of skiers of all levels. There are four tow ropes at the ski resort, capable of accommodating 500 skiers at a time.
The ski resort has 500 sets of ordinary ski equipment, 200 sets of high-end ski equipment, 50 snow tubes, 10 snowboards, and 5 snowmobiles. Functionally, it offers a children’s snow play area for children, a joyful ice and snow lane for beginners, an ice and snow family fun area for families, a beginner and intermediate teaching area, a snowboard area, a free entertainment area, a snow-themed dining area, an ice sculpture viewing area, 500 parking spaces, a high-end fast food restaurant with 120 seats, and 14 five-star luxury guest rooms.
Arxan Ski Resort
The Arxan Ski Resort is located on both sides of the hot spring street in the city center, consisting of the West Mountain Ski Competition and Training Field and the East Mountain Ski Playground. It is a large-scale multi-functional snow sports and entertainment venue.
The Arxan Ski Resort is equipped with advanced equipment and facilities. It has one intermediate alpine cable car with a length of 800 meters, an average slope of 12 degrees, and a maximum slope of 22 degrees. There are three beginner alpine cable cars with a total length of 1,000 meters, an average slope of 6 degrees, and a maximum slope of 15 degrees. The ski resort has a 5-kilometer cross-country skiing route, the only one in China with its starting and ending points located in the city center square, as well as a shooting range for biathlon competitions. The freestyle skiing aerials field is the largest and most fully equipped in China. Arxan has been designated as a winter sports training base by the Chinese Ski Association. The Chinese ski athletes who trained at the Arxan base and competed in the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics achieved the glorious feat of winning gold and silver medals, marking Arxan as the cradle for cultivating world-class ski champions.
