1、Hao Tang

2、Lin Feng Zhai

Village Introduction: Lin Feng Zhai is located in Zhuwa Village, Tangjie Town, Ji County, 13 kilometers southeast of the county town of Ji County, Pingdingshan City. It is known as the “First Red Stone Ancient Fortress in Central Plains”. It preserves 3 Ming Dynasty buildings, over 400 Qing Dynasty buildings and more than 20 well-preserved courtyards, which can be regarded as an exhibition hall of Ming and Qing Dynasty residential buildings. During the Xianfeng period, bandits were rampant in western Henan, and the Zhu family, a prominent family, worried about being robbed, so they demolished the earth wall of the fortress and transported red sandstone from nearby Ziyun Mountain, using the structure of stone on the outside and earth on the inside, together with two moats, to securely guard Zhuwa Village. Thus came the “Red Stone Ancient Fortress”.

3、Luo Jie Zhai

Village Introduction: Luo Jie Zhai is located deep in the southern Taihang Mountains. To reach Shang Luo Jie Zhai, you need to climb a mountain peak over 500 meters high. The ancient fortress is located on a flat mountain peak. The natural scenery and the simple life scenes of Luo Jie Zhai attract more and more backpackers to go into the mountains to explore. Legend has it that Luo Jie Zhai was named after Luo Guixiang, Li Shimin’s lover, who set up camp here. The highest peak of Luo Jie Zhai is called Ant Mountain, with an altitude of 1672 meters. Near this mountain, small animals like rabbits and mice are rarely seen, because the ants there feed on these small animals. Some people have seen a snake as thick as a wrist being surrounded by ants and bitten to the point of rolling on the ground. In less than two hours, only bones remained. Ants dominate this mountain but never migrate outwards. However, don’t worry, these ants are not army ants, they are just a type of red forest ant with a stronger attack.

4、Xi He Ancient Village

Village Introduction: Xi He Ancient Village is located in Xi He Bay, Xi He Village, Zhouhe Township, Xin County, at the junction of Henan and Hubei in the hinterland of Dabie Mountain. It is 400 meters long from east to west and about 100 meters wide from north to south, covering an area of 60 mu and has more than 150 houses. This village with 88 households and 388 villagers was formed in the late Ming Dynasty. The Zhang family of Xi He, using local materials, built their residences using earth bricks and stone bricks. Although these distinctive residences have been rebuilt several times, they have mostly retained their original flavor and ancient charm. Among them, the most eye-catching is the Zhang family ancestral hall built in the Qianlong period. There are folk brick carvings on the top and left and right sides of the gate. The top is a picture of three stars and a hundred longevity, the left is Zhuge Liang’s empty city plan, and the right is the brick carving of the “Yuanmen Beheading” and “Mu Guiying’s Leading the Troops”. In December 2013, Xi He Bay Village was awarded the title of “China’s Scenic Village”. Only 11 villages in the whole country have received this honor.

5、Yan Yun Jian Village

Village Introduction: Yan Yun Jian Village in Yichuan, Luoyang, this village with more than 900 households, one-third of the farmers are engaged in the production of antique bronzeware, and is known as the “Antique Bronzeware Village” by industry insiders. Over the years, these farmers have adopted a family workshop production method, and have explored a set of processes for making models, molds, and smelting copper and casting. In the past ten years, with the approval of relevant departments, the production of antique bronzeware in Yan Yun Jian has long been transformed from “underground” to public. Their handicrafts were once sold to Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and even Europe and the United States.

6、Wei Po Village

Village Introduction: On the north side of Bemang Ridge in Mengjin County, beside the Changling Mausoleum of Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei Dynasty, there is a village with Qing Dynasty architecture from over 300 years ago, with blue bricks, gray tiles and stone roads. That is Wei Po Village. The village unfolds along an east-west ancient street, with 16 courtyards built in the Qing Dynasty with similar regulations. These courtyards are gathered around a 200-meter-long old street, with 7 seven-section courtyards on the south side of the street and 9 five-section courtyards on the north side of the street, with a scale comparable to a modern community with complete facilities. After nearly a century of expansion, it has formed a complex of buildings integrating ancestral halls, private schools, embroidery buildings, north and south old houses. We can still see the largest and best-preserved complex of Qing Dynasty architecture in western Henan, thanks to the strict rules of the Wei clan: “You can live in it, but you cannot sell it; you can repair it, but you cannot demolish it”.

7、Wang Gong Zhuang Village

Village Introduction: Wang Gong Zhuang Village in Beiguan Town, Minquan County, Shangqiu City, used to live a life of “sweet potato soup, sweet potato steamed bread, can’t live without sweet potato” for many years. However, Wang Gong Zhuang Village became famous at home and abroad in ten years. Among the 1366 people in the village, over 800 are engaged in industries related to tiger painting, with annual sales of over 30,000 tiger paintings, generating sales revenue of 60 million yuan. Entering Wang Gong Zhuang Village, you can see a straight cement road, with countless painting studios, mounting shops, art supply stores and so on on both sides of the road. Every shop is related to tiger paintings. The villagers gave this road a name: Culture Street, to highlight the characteristics and cultural revival brought to the village.

8、Ping Le Village

Village Introduction: More than 1,700 years ago, Cao Zhi praised Ping Le Village in Mengjin County, Luoyang, in his “Name Capital Fu”: “Return to feast in Ping Le, delicious wine in ten thousand buckets”. More than 1,700 years later, over 400 villagers have become national painting masters, achieving sales revenue of 70 million yuan with their skilled hands, breaking out of Henan and going global, becoming the world-famous “Peony Painting First Village”. Peony painting in Ping Le Village also has a long history. The soil and water of Ping Le Village are suitable for peony cultivation, just like Luoyang. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Ping Le Village produced many farmer painters who painted peonies. In the 1970s, when the White Horse Temple was renovated, they invited Guo Yi Shan from Ping Le Village to specifically take charge of the painting and carving of the doors and windows of the Grand Hall. Guo Yi Shan mainly painted and carved peony images.

9、Dong Bei Zhuang

Village Introduction: Dong Bei Zhuang has become another famous brand in Puyang, in addition to oil and dragon culture. The acrobatics industry derived from this village not only gave birth to the first acrobatics college in Henan in 1992, but also prompted the local government to invest 40 million yuan to develop the large-scale international acrobatics situational drama “Water Show”. After this show staged in theaters across the country became popular, the international theater named after Water Show was also built. Acrobatics troupes in Dong Bei Zhuang usually follow the custom of “September 9th, go out” and “April 8th, go home”. In September, after the harvest, wheat is planted, and Qiao’s farmers bring their families and belongings, holding their infants who are still breastfeeding, carrying things on their shoulders and in their hands, becoming acrobats, traveling around in groups of three to five people, performing pole acrobatics and ground acrobatics. In April, when wheat matures, the performers rush back from various places to their hometown to harvest grain, return to the land, and return to their farmer status.
