Beihai is located on the coast at the southernmost tip of Guangxi Province. Its economy is developing rapidly, with many entertainment facilities and projects rapidly expanding. There are also many brand new buildings and structures that are a feast for the eyes. Here’s a 5-day travel guide for Beihai.
I’ve been planning this trip for two months, searching for travel guides everywhere, and asking friends who’ve been there for their advice. However, everyone had different suggestions, so I decided to plan my own trip to Beihai, Guangxi in October, using maps and Baidu to save time and energy.
A month before our trip, my family booked our train tickets. We booked them 30 days in advance, but when we tried booking our boat tickets that night, we found that we couldn’t book them on the official website. We ended up trying Jiecheng and Qunar, but Jiecheng failed, and Qunar made us wait for confirmation.
I worried for days, but we decided to wait and book our return train and boat tickets at the time they went on sale. After all, we had booked our hotel room 30 days in advance, along with our outgoing train tickets. We’d learned our lesson, so we booked everything as soon as the tickets went on sale. Luckily, everything went smoothly.
After ten days, Qunar finally confirmed our boat tickets.

You can use WeChat Pay on the island and in Beihai. The accommodation conditions on the island are better than what they said online, the water is plentiful, the internet is good, just a bit expensive. Vegetables are all 20 yuan per portion, bananas are the cheapest, be sure to buy ripe ones.
5-Day Trip to Beihai, Guangxi
Summary:
1. Be sure to bring sunscreen, swimwear, and other sun protection items.
2. Download Baidu Maps, it’s very important on the island.
3. Transfers are faster than you think, be sure to pay attention to the ground signs. The transfer corridor is on the second floor, and there are ticket inspectors at the exit checking tickets and ID cards. Ask the ticket inspectors for directions to Beihai station.
4. We ate at Qiaogang every night, and I think it’s quite convenient for food. Be sure to walk further in (you can ride an electric bike). We rented an electric bike from a grocery store near the hotel. We didn’t pay a deposit, just paid when we returned it. We agreed that it would cost 40 yuan per day if we returned it by 8 pm, and 50 yuan if we returned it by 9 pm.
5. Beihai is not a big city, if you stay in the middle (for example, near the Beihai Library), you don’t need to rent an electric bike. Taxis generally cost 10 yuan starting fare, and tricycles cost 5 yuan starting fare. We chose a hotel near the Roman Square on Silver Beach (Tianyuan Holiday, Yintai Villa District), which is a 15-20-minute walk to the pier and a 20-30-minute walk to Qiaogang.
6. Be sure to ask about seafood prices on the island. Shellfish and abalone are cheaper, and fish are also ok. The hotels on the island have good WIFI and laundry facilities. The facilities are all complete. I suggest choosing a hotel near Shiluo Beach.
7. Be sure to rent an electric bike on the island, otherwise it’s inconvenient to get around. It’s in the countryside, normally they charge 50 yuan per day, but we paid 80 yuan per day because it was a holiday. Some tourists say that the hotel they stayed at had electric bikes for 50 yuan a day. Be sure to pay attention to the intersections when riding, some roads are narrow.
8. Be sure to check if you’re parking in a scenic spot before parking on the island, otherwise you’ll have to pay 3-5 yuan. The Catholic Church has three entrances. Although they say you can’t drive in, you can actually drive in. If they stop you, just say you are going to eat a pre-booked group meal. You can park near the church, but you’ll have to pay 3 yuan. If you park near the restaurant, you won’t have to pay. After visiting the church, go directly to Seashell Beach, a 5-minute ride straight ahead.
8. Beihai has Didi, if you have a tight schedule in the morning, you can book Didi. There are very few taxis and tricycles very early in the morning.
