About the itinerary

The best way to travel Iceland is to drive around the island, but my girlfriend and I don’t know how to drive, so just like Finland, we booked day tours.

We booked our tour on the official websites of Guide to Iceland and grayline. The hotel front desk usually also offers some tours, you can sign up based on your own itinerary.

Golden Circle Day Tour

Iceland’s classic sightseeing route. The Great Rift – Geysers – Gullfoss Waterfall.

Waterfall – Black Sand Beach – Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon – Glacier Hiking

We joined a two-day one-night small group. The route is good. We also met two friends who were traveling alone, and we encountered colorful aurora borealis (I will write a separate note about the aurora borealis later). The tour guide was also very cute.
The only regret is that we didn’t make it to the Blue Ice Cave.

Blue Lagoon

A must-visit place. It’s like being in a fairyland. Tickets can be booked on the official website. It’s a 50-minute drive from the city center.

Reykjavik

You can also spend a day exploring the capital. Buy souvenirs, visit the church, concert hall, and the harbor.

Other

Snowmobiling, horseback riding, chasing the aurora borealis.

About accommodation

Except for the one night accommodation included in the two-day tour, we stayed in the capital Reykjavik for the rest of the time. The tour group will have a car to take you to the hotel.

We stayed at the Reykjavik Center Hotel. The location is great, and it’s clean. The downside is that it’s a bit expensive.

About food

Iceland’s specialty is fish and lamb. However, the food is really mediocre, and it’s expensive.

Fiskmarkaðurinn. Reservation required, the taste is good, it’s the most expensive meal we had in Iceland. About 12,000isk per person.

Bæjarins Beztu, a street food stall, said to be the best hot dog in the world.
