Scenic Spots along the Way
1. Chilet Chuan Grassland
The Chilet Chuan Grassland, originally named “Huhetal Grassland”, is located in the New District of Hohhot City, Inner Mongolia. It is a natural ecological grassland tourism scenic area integrating grassland protection, restoration, and culture, and combining sightseeing, leisure, and other multiple functions.
The Chilet Chuan Grassland combines horse culture with Mongolian Yuan culture. Based on grassland cultural resources and modern service industry demonstration bases, it provides leisure, entertainment, vacation, and business support, carrying out sports tourism, brand events, and experiential sports.
The Chilet Chuan Grassland covers an area of 24,000 mu, including the Chilet Chuan Grassland core area, the Huhetal Conference Center, the Inner Mongolia Minority Cultural and Sports Center, the Saren Lake, the equestrian trail, and other characteristic projects.
2. Nanhai Wetland Scenic Area
The Nanhai Wetland Scenic Area is located on the south side of Baotou City, Inner Mongolia, by the Yellow River. To the north, there are hazy mountains reflecting, and to the south, the Yellow River wraps around like a jade belt. The scenery is unique, integrating tourism sightseeing, ecological leisure, and science popularization. It is a National AAAA-level scenic spot and an Autonomous Region-level wetland nature reserve.
The main objects of protection in the Nanhai Wetland Scenic Area are the wetland ecosystem and its rare birds. There are 36 families, 93 genera, and 137 species of wild plants growing here; 201 species of birds inhabit and rest here, including 13 species of key protected birds (2 species of Class I protected birds in China, and 11 species of Class II protected birds in China), including rare birds such as the relict gull, black stork (guàn), and whooper swan.
The Nanhai Wetland Scenic Area is a microcosm of the Yellow River wetland ecosystem. Its ecological environment types are unique and it is the only Autonomous Region-level wetland nature reserve in Baotou City. The Nanhai Lake has a vast expanse of water, picturesque scenery, sparkling waves, and a gathering of seagulls, known as the “West Lake of the North”.
3. Meiligen Scenic Area
Meiligen (meaning “intelligent” in Mongolian) Scenic Area is located in Jiu Yuan District, Baotou City, Inner Mongolia. It nestles at the southern foot of Wula Mountain in the Yinshan Mountains. Looking south, it overlooks the Nine-Bend Yellow River. To the west, it connects with Bayannur City. It is a natural scenic area featuring numerous giant spherical granite mountains, waterfalls, and plant landscapes.
The Meiligen Scenic Area has many spectacular canyons such as the Meiligen Gou, Shibao Ketu Gou, and Xi Gou. The mountains are majestic and unique, deep and dangerous. The main peak, Dabahuaibei, has an elevation of 2,324 meters. The scenic area covers an area of 56.7 square kilometers and is a National AAAA-level scenic spot and Autonomous Region-level nature reserve.
The Meiligen Scenic Area is known for its four wonders: “Forest Sea Peculiar Pine, Waterfall Pool Spring, Cloud Sea Illusion, and Peculiar Peak Odd Stone”. The scenic area has rolling peaks, majestic and magnificent, with a “Camel Peak” resembling a camel, and a lifelike “Tortoise Stone”, “Two Apes Guarding the Hour”, and “Nuwa’s Appearance” among other wonders. Numerous waterfalls and springs rush and cascade among the rocks. Here, the rainfall is abundant, the trees are lush, and the clouds and mist surge, making the scenery different in each season. In spring, the birds sing and the flowers are fragrant. In summer, there is a sea of clouds and flowing springs. In autumn, the leaves are red all over the mountain. In winter, ice columns form a forest.
