There are many places to visit in Beijing during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. If you want to visit the Forbidden City, be sure to book your tickets in advance. Even if you don’t go to the Forbidden City, you can still visit these attractions, check in, and experience them. The scenic spots are very convenient to get to.
Labagoumen Primitive Forest Park

In Beijing, there is a 45 square kilometer, primeval secondary forest with over 90% forest coverage. Located in the northernmost part of Beijing, Labagoumen Township is a precious no-man’s land between 700 and 1700 meters above sea level. From Labagoumen Manchu Township along the G111 National Highway, you can enter the forest area to the west. On the way, you will pass through Sunzhai and Huangdianzi, two villages with a concentration of farmhouses. After about 15 kilometers, you will reach the entrance to the scenic area. Many tourists choose to stay in the farmhouses of the two villages mentioned above.
The nature reserve has over 300 species of animals and nearly 700 species of plants. The scenic area is divided into three viewing areas: Nanhouling, Baizhangya, and Ice. The three sightseeing routes also have different natural landforms and vegetation distribution. On the way to the 1705-meter Nanhouding, there are birch and maple forests near the Phoenix Platform.
Tanzhe Temple

Tanzhe Temple was built in the Yongjia period of the Western Jin Dynasty. This ancient temple holds a high position. Some say that the blueprint for the Forbidden City was inspired by Tanzhe Temple. However, viewed from the air, this temple, with its moat and strict symmetry, truly has the majestic air of the Forbidden City. Tanzhe Temple gets its name from the Chinese words for “tanzhe” (tanzhe tree) and “tan” (pond) because there is a tanzhe tree in front of the temple and a pond behind it. The ancient tree stands in front of the archway at the entrance to the temple.
The visit to Tanzhe Temple is divided into three routes: central, east, and west. The central axis includes the mountain gate, Tianwangdian (Hall of the Heavenly Kings), Daxiongbaodian (Great Hero Hall), and Piluge (Pilu Pavilion). The simple mountain gate opens up a scroll of incense-burning pilgrims. The “Respectful Incense Burning Etiquette” and “Tanzhe Temple Incense Burning and Buddha Worship Etiquette” next to the Tianwangdian tell everyone the way to burn incense and worship Buddha.
