At the end of spring and the beginning of summer this year, I made an appointment with my good friend Mei Ya, and our two families went on a nearby trip together. So we set off from Lishui, passed through Longquan County, and headed towards Jincun in Xiaomei Town. I had been looking forward to visiting Jincun for a long time.

Jincun is located in Xiaomei Town, one hour’s drive from Longquan County. According to records, Jincun was a major concentration of Longquan kilns in the Song Dynasty, and it was also the first wharf for the export of ancient celadon. The Jincun kiln site is the southernmost kiln site group in the upper reaches of the Ou River, mainly distributed along the banks of the Mei River in a canyon about 4 kilometers long, with a total of 52 kiln sites. Jincun celadon is the most typical, the light blue celadon products from the Five Dynasties to the early Northern Song Dynasty are the top-grade art celadon at that time. The Mei River beside Jincun has clear water and wide waterways. It is said that this is the actual starting point of the Maritime Silk Road.

With a longing and a searching heart, the car meandered forward in the wind, the mountain road winding along the mountains and beside the water. We saw lush forests and wide riverbeds on both sides of the road, the river rushing, and the scenery on both sides was beautiful and magnificent. We laughed all the way and drove forward, unknowingly, the pavilion at the head of Jincun Village and the dots of villages were already faintly visible. As we approached the village entrance, the first thing that caught our eye was the simple and rustic suspension bridge swaying over the river and the wide, clear and cheerful river under the bridge.

The bridge deck of the suspension bridge is made of the most original wood from the local area, thick planks of cedar wood are spliced together horizontally, each about 1.5 meters long. Under the planks are very thick and strong iron ropes connected together. When crossing the bridge, two people can walk side by side holding hands, or one person can spread his arms and gently hold the rope net of the bridge and walk carefully in the middle. The rope net of the bridge is woven with hemp rope and iron chains interwoven, simple and beautiful. The whole suspension bridge spans the two banks of the river, naturally formed, is a very spectacular and beautiful scenery of Jincun.

The suspension bridge swayed and swayed, my companions and I ran excitedly onto the bridge. Walking on the bridge, our feet felt like stepping on cotton, soft and springy. As we approached the middle of the suspension bridge, a group of mischievous children ran over to play pranks, and they all shook the bridge left and right. We quickly grabbed the ropes on both sides with our hands. Standing on the bridge, we felt a little like the pendulum of a clock, with our heads as the center and our bodies as the radius, our toes drawing an arc; when the amplitude was a little bigger, it felt a little like a swing in the wind, our bodies swaying back and forth, our sleeves fluttering in the wind, and the children ran away laughing.

Watching the children’s figures disappear into the distance, I dared to loosen my grip on the rope net and lean on the hemp rope railing of the bridge with my two arms folded. Looking into the distance, green mountains piled up in front of my eyes, and I held my breath and listened, the river under the bridge was gurgling. In the haze, there seemed to be the sound of drums, and I seemed to see ships loaded with celadon sailing under the bridge; sometimes there was a noisy crowd, as if the merchants who exported celadon from afar had returned triumphantly. At this moment, time seemed to flow backward, the prosperity and bustle of the celadon industry in history, on the banks of this suspension bridge under the blue sky and white clouds, clear mountains and green waters, seemed to be vaguely visible, overlapping and overlapping.

We reluctantly walked across the suspension bridge slowly. Walking a few steps to the left of the river embankment, we saw a staircase made of bluestones leading to an ancient wharf. Beside the wharf is a large camphor tree, lush and green, the leaves rustling in the wind. This may be a thousand-year-old camphor tree that has weathered the storms and witnessed history.

There was a villager washing clothes at the wharf. She told me that this river is the Mei River, and it is said that this was one of the starting points for ancient celadon to converge on the Maritime Silk Road, and it was one of the starting stations for the export of Longquan celadon. My guess was confirmed. The river surface is wide here, the water is a little deep and the current is a little fast, but the water is very clear. I think the clear water must have been formed by the convergence of countless springs in the mountains. This Mei River water, which has flowed endlessly for years, may be the source of the rolling Ou River.

There is a bamboo raft docked by the wharf, with two small bamboo chairs on it, for tourists to enjoy. However, the raft must be manned by professional raftmen before it can set sail. The banks stretched out on both sides, and we drifted down the river. The wind blew from the river surface, blew across our cheeks, gently circled our bodies, and our bodies slowly stretched out. Soon, we reached the middle section of the Mei River in the canyon area. It is said that this is where the Jincun ancient kiln site group is located. Historically, large and small celadon kilns were built on this hillside. It is imaginable how lively and prosperous it was then. The water flows leisurely, the scenery on both sides of the river is like a painting. If we were to walk the mountain road, perhaps we could still find a few pieces of ancient porcelain fragments.

Mei Ya sat on the bamboo chair of the raft, looking at the river flowing eastward beside her, she couldn’t help but extend her gaze into the distance. Perhaps her thoughts were also drifting into the distance. I heard the river flowing under my feet, and I couldn’t help but lean over and scoop up a handful of river water, throwing it up into the sky. The water fell freely, like water droplets and mist, under the sunlight, it transformed into tiny rainbows, shimmering with seven colors of light.

The green mountains stretched endlessly, the green water rippled, melting into this green mountains and green waters, perhaps this is already the image of a fairy.

I admire the beauty of Jincun, but the beauty of Jincun is far from being described by the clear mountains and green waters or the picturesque scenery. Today’s Jincun has become one of the first batch of Chinese traditional villages. The Longquan Dajiao site (Jincun section) has become a national key protection unit. Jincun is known as a unique celadon historical and cultural village. It is also one of the ten best beautiful and livable villages in Lishui and one of the ten best places to enjoy the summer in Lishui. History is developing, the ancient Jincun is evolving, I hope the beauty of Jincun, on our land of beautiful Jiangnan, will remain unchanged and dazzling forever.

The bamboo raft turned back at an ancient dam, the bits and pieces of historical celadon culture and the green mountains and green waters ecological homeland in front of me, who says this is not a gold mountain and a silver mountain?

As I drifted on the river of Jincun, I felt happy and my thoughts flew. I remembered the lyrics that my daughter Yingying wrote recently, I made a few minor changes, and it surprisingly fit the scene. I couldn’t help but hum along to the melody:

Mist and rain in Jiangnan, shy,
Sunset shines on the island head.
Ancient wharf, again see the bamboo raft tour,
Green mountains on both sides, like a painting, walk in the river.
Camphor tree, swallows tweet and rest,
Mountain mist, see the quietness.
Ancient village, still see you look back,
Flitting figure, that is your tenderness.
Oh, whose silk dress,
Drunkenly beautiful, in the porcelain village head.
Millennium ancient village, time like wine,
Sound of waves into dream, affection long long remain.
Oh, whose figure,
Walk through the porcelain village head.
Lingering, your bright eyes.
How much thoughts, like water flow eastward.
