Where to Go in Wuhan in Winter: A-list Attractions for Your Choice

Recently, many people have asked where to go in Wuhan in winter. It’s actually a tricky question because Wuhan is quite big and has 3 5A-rated scenic spots and 20 4A-rated scenic spots. So how do I tell you where to go? I can’t just say go to all of them, haha. However, I’ve categorized them for you, and you can choose based on your preferences. This should make things easier.

Let’s forget about professional travel guides and just categorize them in a regular way.

1. Natural Scenery

Wuhan East Lake Eco-Cultural Tourism Zone, you don’t need any introduction for this. When you come to Wuhan, you have to visit East Lake. It combines various travel activities, including lake views, mountain views, water sports, climbing, exercise, flower viewing, historical sites, children’s activities, cycling, learning, and much more. This is definitely the first choice. It’s also unique in winter.

Wuhan Mulan Eco-Cultural Tourism Zone, Mulan Mountain doesn’t need an introduction either. It’s a frequent destination for Wuhan residents. It’s mainly known for mountain climbing, but it also offers Mulan culture, entertainment, and more. Winter is a good time to visit and enjoy the snow scenery.

Other options include Jinli Gou, Wuhan Jiuzhen Mountain, Fengwa Ancient Village, Ma’anshan Forest Park, Wuhan Nonggen Nianhua Agricultural Style Garden, Mulan Water Town, Caidian Jinlong Water Village Scenic Area, Yaojiashan Scenic Area, etc. These are all suitable for winter visits.

2. Learning with Kids

If you are afraid of the cold and have kids, you might want to go to learn something. You could go to the Yellow Crane Tower and experience the feeling that Li Bai, the great poet, had when he was there.

Of course, the Hubei Provincial Museum doesn’t need an introduction either. The Yue King Goujian Sword is in the Provincial Museum, so it’s a great place to introduce kids to history.

Other great places for learning include the Wuhan Botanical Garden, Wuhan Museum, China University of Geosciences Yifu Museum, and Wuhan Science and Technology Museum.

3. Red Tourism

Wuhan is always known for its pioneering spirit. The Wuchang Uprising happened here, so there are many red tourism sites in Wuhan. These include the Wuhan Revolutionary Museum, the Wuchang Uprising Memorial Hall (Red Building), and the Wuchang Uprising Cultural Tourism Zone. These places are less crowded in winter, so they are a good option.

4. Ancient Towns and Historical Sites

If you are interested in ancient towns and historical sites, Wuhan has those too. There’s Guiyuan Temple, Dayuwan, and others. They are also great places to visit in winter.

5. Modern Entertainment

If you’re not interested in any of the above, you might enjoy Wuhan Happy Valley and the Polar Ocean World. They are great places to bring your kids or family for some excitement. In winter, there are fewer people, so lines are shorter, making it worth a visit.

Of course, this is just a simple overview of 4A-5A rated scenic spots. There are many 3A-rated scenic spots, and it would be too much to list them all. So, when you come to Wuhan, decide what you want to do first and then choose your route. Otherwise, you might get lost.
