1、Grassland Sky Road
Grassland Sky Road is known as China’s Route 66. The road is winding and tortuous, with rivers, mountains, deep ravines, pastures with cattle and sheep, and spectacular scenery.
It presents a panoramic view of a hundred-mile grassland, with numerous cultural, ecological and geological tourism resources, including the ancient Great Wall site, Huapiling, Yehuoling, Zhangbei Grassland, etc.
Self-driving route: Route 1: Beijing—G6 (Qinghe toll station)—Zhangshi Expressway (exit at Zhangjiakou North 2) (turn right at the gas station on the right)—National Highway 207—turn right at Yehuoling—Huapiling (exit)—S242—S345—S241—G6 (Shacheng entrance)—Kangzhuang—Beijing
Route 2: Beijing—G6 (Qinghe toll station)—G6 (Huailai exit)—S241 (towards Bincheng)—S345—S241 (towards Guyuan)—Huapiling (East entrance of Grassland Sky Road)—Yehuoling (West entrance of Grassland Sky Road)—Zhangbei—Beijing
Mileage: Beijing—Grassland Sky Road (round trip) 600km, Suggestion: Pass through Badaling Expressway before 07:00 to avoid traffic jams. It is recommended to spend 2 days for a trip to the Grassland Sky Road from Beijing!
2、Fengning Bashang Grassland
Located in Fengning Manchu Autonomous County, it belongs to Chengde City, Hebei Province. The first grassland resort in northern Beijing, which is located in the Bashang Plateau, attracts many Chinese and foreign guests with its fresh and cool, pleasant climate.
The area below the dam is surrounded by towering mountains, rolling hills, flying waterfalls, deep canyons, water and mountains interlaced, and beautiful scenery. The area connected to the dam has a vast forest, birds singing and flowers fragrant, which is a natural kingdom for gathering and hunting. In the area above the dam, the sky is high and the earth is wide, the grass is thick and the flowers are bright. In the summer, the climate is cool, which is an ideal place for vacation and summer resort.
Self-driving route: Beijing-Huairou-Yanqilake-Tanghekou-Changshaoying-Lama Mountain-Fengning County Town-Tucheng Town-Datan Town (First Grassland in Northern Beijing) 280 kilometers in total.
3、Kangbao Grassland
Kangbanor Grassland is located at Wolongtu, 3 kilometers southwest of Kangbao County Town, at the southern foot of the Yin Mountains, with an average altitude of 1400 meters and an average daily temperature 8.5℃ lower than Beijing.
Here, the sky is high and the clouds are light, the land is green and the water is clean, the air is fresh and pleasant, and the grassland scenery is picturesque. Regardless of spring, summer, autumn or winter, this place maintains a unique climatic condition with changing wind direction every day.
Self-driving route: Zhangshi Expressway – exit at Zhangbei/Kangbao/Shangyi – drive 46 kilometers along Provincial Highway 245 – Yingbin Road – County Road 451 – Kangbanor Grassland.
4、Guyuan Grassland
Guyuan Grassland is located at the southern end of the Inner Mongolia Plateau, outside the Great Wall, 260 kilometers away from Beijing, and is the closest primitive wetland grassland to Beijing.
Guyuan Grassland is a natural wild plant garden in the north. In summer, bees fly and butterflies dance, springs gush forth, the scenery is boundless, the lake water is vast, the rugged and winding Tanshan Mountains, the boundless natural grassland, the infinite scenery has attracted emperors and generals, literati and scholars from all dynasties to visit and appreciate.
Self-driving route: Beijing—Jingzang Expressway—Huailai—Chicheng—Guyuan
5、Saihanba National Forest Park
Saihanba National Forest Park is located in Weichang County, Chengde City, and is part of Mulan Weichang. This place was once the royal hunting ground during the Qing Dynasty, with vast grasslands and forests, as well as lakes and hills dotted among them, a scene of the north, with beautiful scenery.
Saihanba is not far from Beijing, and is an excellent place to catch a glimpse of the north in the suburbs of Beijing. Saihanba National Forest Park is very large, with both length and width of more than ten kilometers, which includes a town and many scenic spots. Vehicles can drive in. It is suitable for self-driving trips.
Self-driving route: Route 1: Take Jingcheng Expressway, 230 kilometers, first go to Chengde. Have lunch in Chengde, then drive 240 kilometers to reach Saihanba National Forest Park. Stay overnight and return to Beijing the next day along the original route.
Route 2: Take Jingcheng Expressway, go north through Huairou, and stay overnight in Fengning Manchu Autonomous County. The next day, depart from Fengning and take G111 National Highway to Saihanba National Forest Park. Stay overnight. On the third day, depart from Saihanba, go through Weichang County, Chengde City, and return to Beijing.
6、Chengde Mulan Weichang Grassland
This place has always been a grassland with abundant water and grass, where animals breed. “Thousand Miles of Pine Forest” was once the hunting ground of the Liao Emperor, and “Mulan Weichang” was also the place where the Qing emperors held the “Mulan Autumn Hunt”.
Here you will find vast forests, vast grasslands, clear plateau lakes and Qing Dynasty historical sites.
Self-driving route: Route 1: Chengde West Line, a total of 450 kilometers Sanyuanqiao—Jingcheng Expressway—Chengde West—Longhua County Town—Weichang County Town—Yudaokou—Ulanbutong Hongshan Cavalry Farm.
Route 2: Luanping Line, a total of 420 kilometers Sanyuanqiao—Jingcheng Expressway—Luanping exit—Luanping County Town—Longhua County Town—Yudaokou, Saihanba Grassland Forest Park toll station—Ulanbutong Hongshan Cavalry Farm
Route 3: Avoid Saihanba and go straight to Mulan Weichang Beijing—Jingcheng Expressway—Shuangluan exit—Longhua County Town—Yudaokou—towards Dulun—towards Keshiketeng Banner—Ulanbutong Hongshan Cavalry Farm.
7、Zhangbei Bashang Grassland
Located north of Zhangbei County, Zhangjiakou City, it was once a place for the Qing Emperor to visit and hunt. Here, the air is pure and the pollution is very low, it is a well-preserved natural grassland.
The weather on the grassland in summer is cool, with flowers blooming everywhere, white clouds floating, and when visiting the grassland scenery, you can stay in unique Mongolian yurts or bring your own tents.
Self-driving route: Beijing Madian Bridge—Changping—Badaling—Yanqing—Huailai—Xiahuayuan—Xuanhua—Zhangjiakou—Zhangbei Bashang, a total of about 260 kilometers.
8、Weixian Sky Grassland
The Sky Grassland, at an altitude of 2158 meters, is the famous Sky Grassland on top of the mountain. The Sky Grassland is a high-altitude wetland meadow, and is named “Sky Grassland” because of its high and flat terrain. The southern part of the grassland is full of strange rocks and cliffs, the middle part is a boundless flower sea grassland as smooth as a grindstone, and the northern part is a large forest.
The average temperature is around 15℃, with various climatic conditions coexisting, the weather is changing rapidly, there is no sweltering heat in summer, and no dust in spring. The air is fresh, the green grass is like a carpet, the flowers and plants are intertwined, the trees are luxuriant, the white clouds are flying, the heaven and earth are connected, the grassland is boundless, the peaks and ridges are stacked below, it is like a natural large botanical garden.
Self-driving route: Take the Jingzang Expressway, after arriving at Xuanhua, change to the Xuanda Expressway, after passing Huashuaoying, change to the Zhangshi Expressway, exit at Weixian East, you can find the sign in Weixian County Town.
