About Xiamen Baicheng Beach, What’s Fun in Xiamen Daibaicheng

I have been to Xiamen’s Daibaicheng many times, but this time was the first time I went there alone. Since it’s quite close to my school, it’s not a bad idea to travel alone occasionally. There is no one to disturb me and I can think things over carefully. It’s great to have no one interrupting my thoughts.

I took the bus to Xiamen Baicheng, passing Xiamen West Village Station. Through the bus window, I could see the long queues at the entrance of Xiamen University. I was surprised that there were still so many people willing to queue up to see Xiamen University, even though it wasn’t a holiday. I remember queuing up for a long time when I first visited. Every year, the flowers are similar, but the people are different.

Arriving at Baicheng Beach, I got off the bus and could see the endless beach. Perhaps because it wasn’t a holiday, there weren’t many people on the beach. Since the BRICS summit was held in Xiamen, the beach was cleaner than before. Compared to the past, there were fewer vendors. I still remember the various Arabic grilled skewers and fried squid. Now there is only one relatively clean restaurant, and some vendors selling sun hats, green mangoes, and coconuts.

The seawater today was particularly clear, with a hint of green in the blue. The sea stretches endlessly towards the distance, where you can see the distant mountains and the blue sky, as well as various ships. Across the strait is Taiwan. Many merchants were shouting about taking a boat to see Kinmen. I last saw Kinmen at Xiamen’s Dazeng Town, so I wasn’t curious.

It was noon when I arrived. I found a restaurant near Baicheng Beach and ordered a Taiwanese grilled sausage and oyster omelet. Having tried many different ways to make oyster omelet, I didn’t find this one particularly special.

I just kept walking. On the way, I passed a gazebo. I quickly climbed up and rested. I inadvertently saw my feet wearing sandals. I didn’t realize it before, but I was surprised to see how dark they had become after just one afternoon. The darkening was clearly layered. Needless to say, my arms and legs were the same. Just then, an old man selling iced coconuts walked by. I quickly bought one to soothe my wounded heart. The coconut was really delicious. I always wanted to eat the coconut flesh, but I was always curious how to open a coconut. Today, after finishing the coconut milk, I managed to suck up a little bit of the coconut flesh through the straw. It wasn’t bad, but the straw could only reach a small amount. Sadly, the coconut was too hard and the straw was too soft. I thought it would be a waste to throw away the coconut after just drinking the milk, but I couldn’t get the flesh out either!

I thought I had to go back to Baicheng Beach to catch the bus, but I didn’t want to leave. Then, I suddenly remembered the shared bicycles. I hadn’t ridden one yet. Before, you had to rent bicycles here, but now there are all kinds of shared bicycles, which is much more convenient. I thought the last time I rode a bicycle on the loop road was when I was a freshman. Back then, I couldn’t ride a bicycle, but now I’m about to graduate. This time, I know how to ride. It’s just the right opportunity to experience it again. I got on a shared bicycle. It was a bit difficult to go uphill, but going downhill was really enjoyable. While cycling, I saw lavender and daisies ahead and quickly stopped to take a look. This was the first time I saw them. I had always longed for a lavender field. When I started taking pictures, I wasn’t sure if it was lavender. When I went home and searched on Baidu, I found out that it was indeed lavender. I was so excited.

Bicycles are fast. I had walked for a long time, but it only took a while to cycle back. The loop road trip was over, and I returned to Baicheng Beach. I originally wanted to experience the magnificence of the sunset over the sea, but I only saw the sunset, not the sun setting. I don’t know if it was the wrong angle or the wrong time.

That’s how my day ended. I squeezed onto the bus. Although I was a little tired, it was a kind of enjoyment.
