Phoenix Ancient City is located in Hunan Province. It is a place where everyone is in a hurry, and it preserves quite complete ancient buildings. You will find your own romance here. Here is a Phoenix Ancient City encounter guide for everyone.
Phoenix Night View
I used to imagine your appearance from picture to picture, the staggered stilt houses on both sides of the Tuojiang River, the twinkling lights winding along the river at night. At the foot of the green mountains, Miao girls in their finery, exquisite silver ornaments and pure, radiant smiles complement each other.
When I finally arrived at your side, everything seemed to be as I imagined, but also a little different from what I imagined.
First Acquaintance with Phoenix – Traffic at the South Gate and the Deep Alley
Following the route given by the innkeeper, we arrived at the South Gate of the ancient city. The ancient city gate, the mottled city wall, witnessed the ups and downs, the rise and fall of the ancient city. However, the dense traffic and pedestrians under the city gate were indeed shocking – many people took advantage of the holiday to drive out, the long lines of cars and the intermittent honking made people a little disturbed.
Fortunately, after walking into the alley, everything was blocked out. The narrow stone alley was just enough for two people to walk side by side. On both sides were shops, fragrant snack shops, exquisite coffee shops, inns with different styles, and music instrument shops with drum beats. At first glance, it seemed to be the common appearance of ancient cities in China.
However, after entering a coffee shop or inn, one suddenly felt different: the misty air and cool breeze over the Tuojiang River refreshed one’s mind. The lights on the stilt houses on the bank and the sound of music from the bar, which seemed near and far, added a touch of intoxication. The inns not facing the river need to be on higher floors to see the houses with white walls and black tiles, high and low, in the ancient city, and the mountains hugging them in the distance. At this time, a voice echoed in my heart: This is Phoenix.
Night View of Phoenix – Imagining Your Cool Face in the Crowd
When night fell and the lights came on, the houses of all sizes in Phoenix Ancient City were no longer the cold and gray they were in the daytime. The colorful lights adorned the stilt houses on both sides of the Tuojiang River, the reflections in the water rippling like a beauty’s eyes, this brilliant yet calm beauty stretched for hundreds of meters, making one feel an urge to walk along the riverbank forever.
However, this urge was eventually diluted by the bustling crowd. Various music played in the noisy bars, some lingering and heartbreaking, some vigorous and inspiring. Couples holding hands, children skipping, elderly people moving slowly, and even excited dogs, everyone walked and chatted happily, creating a festive atmosphere.
After all, there is still some regret. If we could avoid the holidays, avoid this surging crowd, perhaps we could better feel the simple and quiet beauty of Phoenix, the three hundred years of wind and rain, and the vicissitudes of life. But whether it is lively or quiet, Phoenix is after all Phoenix, it silently accepts everything, so these all become its due appearance.
Humanistic Phoenix – A Meal, A Person, A Feeling
A bowl of steaming hot noodles in the morning, tender rice noodles with various toppings, waking up the city and people together. Restaurants of all sizes serve a variety of Xiangxi delicacies: fat but not greasy bacon, spicy and fragrant blood sausage duck, sour and delicious sour soup fish, and duck feet, bracken fern and other vegetables that are rarely heard of but crispy and refreshing, making one’s mouth water. Unconsciously, one finishes bowl after bowl of rice.
After eating and drinking, walking on the streets of the ancient city, one can often see grandma wearing Miao clothes, some braiding colorful braids for tourists, some selling hand-woven flower wreaths, and some sitting in the alley doing needlework on small black-bottomed, colorful flower cushions. Most of them are not tall, wearing a black tall hat, the hat does not have silver ornaments, simple and plain, just like the wearer of the hat.
If you want to learn more about the history of the ancient city, you can also visit Shen Congwen’s former residence, the ancient castle, and the famous live-action performance “Border Town”. Unfortunately, it was closed in winter, and we were unable to experience the romantic love story of Cuicui. So we left a thought, silently looking forward to the reunion with Phoenix.
