There are many temples in Beijing. As the end of the year is approaching, where can you go to seek blessings for peace, career, health, love, and more? Let’s take a look at Tan Zhe Temple, Yonghe Temple, Hongluo Temple, Fayuan Temple, Yunju Temple, and more.
1、Hongluo Temple
In the Hongluo Temple scenic area, you can see crowds of people every day. The incense is strong and there is a constant stream of people. People come here to pray for love and children, and Hongluo Temple is especially effective in these matters.
Hongluo Temple is a ten-direction permanent residence temple and the birthplace of Northern Buddhism in China. It is also one of the largest Buddhist monasteries. For over a thousand years, it has enjoyed a very high status in the Buddhist community. The last two generations of masters of the Pure Land School of Buddhism in China were both associated with this temple. There is a saying: “There is Putuoshan in the South, and Hongluo in the North.” The Hongluo Temple scenic area now forms a “one-day tour” sightseeing pattern consisting of Hongluo Temple Ancient Temple Culture Area, Guanyin Temple Culture Area, Great Buddha Culture Area, and Hongluo Mountain and Qinglong Mountain, two natural scenic areas. This creates sightseeing features that include “spring for flowers, summer for escaping the heat, autumn for leaves, and winter for appreciating the three friends of winter.”
2、Yonghe Temple
Yonghe Temple is very effective in seeking career and academic success.
Yonghe Temple has always been one of the most incense-filled temples in Beijing. There is a saying: “Yonghe for men, Hongluo for women”. On the first and fifteenth days of every lunar month, the temple is crowded with people.
Yonghe Temple was home to two emperors and became a “dragon-hidden blessed place”. Therefore, the palace buildings have yellow tiles and red walls, the same specifications as the Forbidden City. Yonghe Temple was converted into a Lama temple, and a minister of the Prime Minister was appointed to manage its affairs. It became the center of the Qing government’s management of Tibetan Buddhism throughout the country. Yonghe Temple consists mainly of three exquisite archways and five grand halls. From the flying eaves and dougong (brackets) of the east and west archways to the ancient east and west Shunshan Lou (buildings), the temple covers an area of 66,400 square meters and has over a thousand rooms.
3、Tan Zhe Temple
Most effective in seeking career and academic success.
Throughout history, from royalty to ordinary people, everyone has been eager to come here to seek blessings. It is known for its abundant incense. After the Ming Dynasty, more and more people came here to seek careers.
Tan Zhe Temple was first built in the first year of the Yongjia era of the Western Jin Dynasty (307 AD), initially named “Jiafu Temple”. In the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Kangxi renamed it “Xiuyun Temple”. It has a history of nearly 1700 years and is known as “First there was Tan Zhe Temple, then there was Beijing City.”
The temple faces south and is built on the mountainside, with a staggered arrangement. It currently has 943 rooms, including 638 ancient halls and buildings. The architecture retains the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
4、Fayuan Temple
This temple is relatively effective in seeking children and wisdom.
Fayuan Temple is home to the China Buddhist Academy and the China Buddhist Books and Artifacts Museum. It is also one of the oldest famous temples in Beijing. The temple environment is quiet and serene, making it a very peaceful and calming place to come and worship and seek blessings. Fayuan Temple is large in scale and its structure is rigorous, employing a central axis symmetrical layout. From south to north, the buildings include the mountain gate, bell and drum towers, Heavenly King Hall, Great Hero Hall, Minzhong Platform, Jingye Hall, Wuliang Hall, Dabitan, Sutra Repository, Da Bianjue Hall, and east and west corridors, a total of seven courtyards and six halls, with a strict and spacious layout. It is an ancient temple building complex in Beijing with a long history.
5、Yunju Temple
Relatively effective in seeking love and children.
Yunju Temple is comprised of Yunju Temple, Shijing Mountain Cave Sutra Repository, and the Tang and Liao Dynasties Pagoda Group, forming a treasure trove of Chinese Buddhist cultural features. The sixth-story hall of Yunju Temple, the Great Compassion Hall, houses a thousand-handed, thousand-eyed Guanyin Bodhisattva. On either side of Guanyin are many children. They are the fake dolls that pilgrims left behind after their wishes for children were granted. There are so many dolls that a special “doll warehouse” has been set up outside the hall. The “children accompanying Guanyin” has become a unique sight at Yunju Temple.
