I’ve been hearing about the magical Jiuzhaigou, a paradise on earth, since I was a child. I’ve always longed to see its wonders for myself.

A spontaneous trip is actually very simple. We just make too many excuses. It’s not about lack of time, but rather overthinking.

Finally, I witnessed the wonder of Jiuzhaigou. It truly is a paradise on earth, leaving one mesmerized.

The Jiuzhaigou National Nature Reserve is located in Jiuzhaigou County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is China’s first nature reserve established primarily for the protection of natural landscapes and is also a famous scenic spot in China and a model for civilized scenic tourism in the country. It has been included in the “World Natural Heritage List”.

Jiuzhaigou is a mountain valley that stretches for more than 50 km with a total area of 650.74 hm², most of which is covered by forests. The name comes from the nine Tibetan villages located in this group of high mountain lakes, including Shuzheng, Heye, and Zezawa.

Jiuzhaigou was a logging area for the 126th and 127th Forestry Farms in the 1960s.

In 1960, Chairman Mao issued a call to support remote mountainous areas, and as a result, people from the plains responded to the call and went to Aba Prefecture, Ganzi Prefecture, and Liangshan Prefecture to participate in the “Third Line Construction” and also to develop forests. Jiuzhaigou was logged for 6 years, and then the “Cultural Revolution” broke out in 1966, leading to many meetings, which allowed Jiuzhaigou to stop logging for 10 years, giving its ecosystem some time to recover.

In the 1970s, a group of loggers who accidentally stumbled upon this wonderland spared the forest from their axes, leaving it to become a national forest park.

The water in the Five Flower Lake is multi-colored, a kaleidoscope of hues, known as the essence of Jiuzhaigou.

Five Flower Lake is located in the middle section of the Rizegou Valley, one of the three valleys in Jiuzhaigou, upstream of the Kongque River. Due to the deposition of travertine on the seabed, various vibrant algae, and the reflections of the colorful surrounding forests, Five Flower Lake presents a range of colors such as goose yellow, dark blue, dark green, and azure blue, hence the name “Five Flower Lake”. Five Flower Lake is known as the “Essence of Jiuzhaigou” and is one of the most popular and cherished attractions in Jiuzhaigou.

Long Sea

Long Sea is the longest lake in Jiuzhaigou, stretching over four kilometers in a dark blue “S” shape. Dense forests line its shores, and from afar, the water appears like a mirror, reflecting the towering snow peaks bathed in the blue sky and white clouds, a magnificent and beautiful sight.

Five Color Pool is the smallest lake in Jiuzhaigou, but it boasts the richest colors, displaying different shades depending on the angle and position. Under the sunlight, it appears quite magical.

Five Color Pool is located in the southern section of the Zezawa Valley, one of the three Y-shaped valleys in Jiuzhaigou, to the north of Long Sea. It is renowned for its beautiful, colorful, pure, and transparent waters, making it the smallest yet most vibrant pool in Jiuzhaigou.

Tiger Sea

Jiuzhaigou boasts charming scenery throughout the year. It is rich in flora and fauna, with a diverse array of species, including ancient forests and over a dozen rare and precious wild animals, such as the giant panda. From afar, the snow-capped peaks rise up, towering into the sky, covered in eternal white. Combined with the Tibetan wooden houses, prayer flags, bridges, mills, traditional customs, and mythical legends, the human landscapes create a picture-perfect “beautiful fairyland”.
