In this era of rapid internet development, email, mobile ordering, and courier delivery have become convenient ways of life, making us realize that the post office is becoming increasingly distant. Nowadays, post offices have become a new type of check-in destination. What are some post offices in Shanghai suitable for checking in?
1. Navigation Post Office
Address: 150 Huoshan Road, Hongkou District
The Navigation Post Office is easy to find, with its bright navy blue mailbox at the entrance as its mark! The Navigation Post Office is the first post office in China to be themed around navigation. Because July 11th is China’s National Navigation Day, the Navigation Post Office has its own exclusive postal code: 200711.
Once you step inside, you will immediately forget you are in a post office. Here, there are no familiar mailing counters, but rather many cultural and creative products related to navigation and postal services, from thermos cups shaped like mailboxes to cute pen holders and postal trucks, making it hard not to be tempted.
But as a post office, the highlight here is still the postmarks and postcards. The Navigation Post Office has so many postmarks that you can’t possibly stamp them all without a large notebook.
There are dozens of stamps here, in addition to the ones displayed on the table, there are many more stamps in the six boxes on both sides that can be used freely, and they are all unique to this place.
The Navigation Post Office’s stamps are divided into series such as the 24 Solar Terms Series, Shanghai Shipping Culture Landmark Series, Constellation Fantasy Series, etc., and new stamps are regularly released. It’s no exaggeration to say that this is a paradise for stamp collectors in Shanghai.
The postcards here are also diverse, from playful and cute ones to ones with Shanghai characteristics and post office exclusive ones, there is something for everyone. The seemingly old post office is not lagging behind in keeping up with the times.
But the most special thing is the banknote version postcard, just like banknotes, the patterns on the postcard can only be seen clearly under an ultraviolet light. This postcard is only sold at the Navigation Post Office, and those who cannot come in person can purchase it on their WeChat public account.
The Navigation Post Office has also made all the stamps they have released into commemorative cards, about half the size of a postcard, each with a colored stamp group and the corresponding prototype, which is also a good choice for collection.
2. Wukang Mansion Theme Post Office
Address: 1883 Huaihai Middle Road
Check-in at Wukang Mansion in a new way! In addition to buying Wukang Mansion ice cream and taking photos, you can also go to the nearby Wukang Mansion Theme Post Office and check in by stamping the Wukang Mansion commemorative stamp.
Entering the post office surrounded by greenery, the retro wooden interior design takes you back to the time when Wukang Mansion was first built. In addition to normal postal services, there are also Wukang Mansion cookies, ice cream, badges, and postcards for sale, and of course, don’t forget to get a Wukang Mansion postmark.
The Wukang Mansion Theme Post Office is also the first post office in Shanghai to sell coffee, and they have invited a long-established Shanghai brand – Qiao Coffee, under Qiaojiazhai.
The coffee cup is wrapped with a hand-painted Wukang Mansion band, which you can take home as a souvenir after finishing your drink.
3. Nanxiang Steamed Bun Theme Post Office
Address: No. 34 Jiefang Street, Nanxiang Town, Jiading District
The Nanxiang Steamed Bun Theme Post Office is not just a “theme”. When you walk into the post office, you can actually order and eat authentic Nanxiang steamed buns!
The steamed buns here are made fresh in the kitchen. You can choose to sit at the tables nearby and enjoy them while they are still hot, or you can take them home to steam yourself, or even mail them to friends far away. According to reports, the Nanxiang steamed buns here have reached as far as Qinghai, so as long as the courier can deliver, you can bring the deliciousness from Shanghai Jiading to all of China.
As the Nanxiang Steamed Bun Theme Post Office, there are of course unique postcards here, with the iconic double pagodas of Nanxiang Ancient Town and Nanxiang steamed buns printed on them. But it is not easy to collect all the postmarks here. There are seven special postmarks, corresponding to the seven days of the week from Monday to Sunday, and each day you can only get one. So if you want to collect them all, you will probably have to go every day.
On the left side of the entrance to the post office, there is also a blind box wall. The blind box is not expensive, the hidden item is a serving of Nanxiang steamed buns, which you can pick up on the spot, and there are as many as 9 hidden items in the entire wall, the probability of winning is not low, come and try your luck!
4. Shanghai International Automobile City Theme Post Office
Address: 7575 Boyuan Road, Jiading District (opposite Shanghai Auto Museum)
The Shanghai International Automobile City Theme Post Office, jointly established by China Post and Shanghai International Automobile City, looks like a giant mailbox from afar, very eye-catching.
The large postmark wall on the right side spells out the shape of a postal truck, and the futuristic robotic arm on the table can automatically stamp for you, just click on the screen next to it.
The Shanghai International Automobile City Theme Post Office has 11 special postmarks, all related to automobiles, and they are very delicately carved. If you think the machine stamping is not “that way”, you can also use the stamps in the box to stamp yourself.
There are also a complete set of postal trucks, postal cars and postal bicycles, as well as models such as the postal hall made of building blocks, looking at these small toys, the memories of the past come flooding back.
5. Shanghai Aerospace Post Office
Address: 2545 Xindu Road, Minhang District
Post offices can “go to sea” and also “go to space”. The Shanghai Aerospace Post Office comes with a full sense of technology, even the mailbox is made in the shape of a reentry capsule, symbolizing “return”.
The Shanghai Aerospace Post Office is divided into three sections: postal service area, aerospace history exhibition area, and cultural and creative exhibition area.
Perhaps the most popular are the cute astronaut models, playing guitar, blowing flute, sitting quietly, you just want to pack them all and take them home.
The Shanghai Aerospace Post Office uses a postage meter stamp instead of manual stamping, and each stamp is added with the date of the day, which is quite special.
