The Leshan Giant Buddha was carved during the Tang Dynasty and took ninety years to complete. It has been standing for more than 1,300 years. Throughout the long river of history, the Buddha has been silently watching the world, the years, and us.

Leshan Giant Buddha, also known as Lingyun Giant Buddha, is located at the confluence of the Minjiang River, Qingyi River, and Dadu River, facing Leshan City across the river.

According to records, the Buddha is 71 meters tall, the head is 14.7 meters high and 10 meters wide, with 1021 hair buns, 7 meters long ears, 5.6 meters long nose, 5.6 meters long eyebrows, 3.3 meters long mouth and eyes, 3 meters high neck, 24 meters wide shoulders, 8.3 meters long fingers, 28 meters from knee to instep, 8.5 meters wide instep, and the foot can accommodate more than 100 people.

From the top to the Buddha’s feet, the narrow Nine-Bend Path is crowded with tourists, and it takes at least an hour to reach the destination. However, the scenery of the three rivers is spectacular. Generally, you enter from the north gate and exit from the east gate!

The Buddha’s head is level with the mountain, his feet are on the great river, and his hands are resting on his knees. The Buddha’s figure is symmetrical, his demeanor is solemn, and he is carved into the mountain and sits on the edge of the river! There are 1021 hair buns on the top of the Buddha, and the mountain is the Buddha, and the Buddha is the mountain.

The 1,300 years of time have witnessed the rise and fall of different eras. The Leshan Giant Buddha uses its height to build a kind of spirit, uses time to accumulate a kind of holiness, showing the vicissitudes of life, solemnity and light. The Buddha’s compassion blesses all living beings.

Things to note:

1. The road to worship the Buddha is one-way. Most tourists walk down the Nine-Bend Path to the foot of the Buddha. Here, you can look up at the world’s largest ancient cliff statue or pray for your family and friends, then walk back up the Lingyun Path. It is crowded with tourists, and it takes about an hour to walk down the path. You need to be patient. 2. You can choose to visit the Buddha by land or by water. If you choose the land route, you can see the Buddha up close from the top of the mountain, and you can also visit Lingyun Temple along the way. If you are short of time, you can also take the ferry, which takes about 1.5 hours. The biggest highlight of taking the ferry is that you can see the Buddha from afar and take a panoramic view of the Buddha. 3. The ticket price is 90 yuan.

Chengdu, a historical and cultural city and a famous tourist city! I only know about it from a brief look at Baidu Encyclopedia or from friends who have told me about their travel experiences! And also the hotpot!

I’ve been talking about going to Chengdu for a long time. At first, it was simply to visit Jiuzhaigou. It was because of the Chengdu city image promotional film “Chengdu, a City You Don’t Want to Leave”, directed by Zhang Yimou in 2003, that I wanted to know why Chengdu is a city you don’t want to leave once you’ve been there! Unfortunately, I only spent one night in Chengdu on my first day, and the next day I went directly to Leshan to see the Buddha!

I was still looking forward to it. What was I looking forward to? I was looking forward to seeing if the Buddha was as crowded as I saw in the news!

I was not disappointed!

The Buddha

I spent a whole hour and a half queuing! Many people gave up the chance to look up at the Buddha because of the queue, but how could I miss it? Sometimes travel is just a kind of hassle!

This is what the Buddha looks like from the halfway up the mountain! Magnificent!

This is the path down to the foot of the Buddha. It is a vertical staircase, only one person wide. Perhaps this is why there are so many people queuing at the entrance!

The path

When I arrived at the foot of the Buddha, I saw a different panorama. Because the Buddha is located at the junction of three rivers in Leshan, cameras and mobile phones cannot capture the entire Buddha. You have to take a boat to the middle of the river!

The foot of the Buddha

Then a group of people took a photo with the Buddha. The Buddha’s eyes were the highlight! I only stayed at the foot of the Buddha for about ten minutes. To get back to the top of the mountain, you need to go up the other side of the Buddha. This way is much smoother, but it only takes ten minutes to go up!

There is a thousand-year-old temple, Lingyun Temple, on the mountain!

The abbot of Lingyun Temple, Master Zhaoguan, once said, “Many people know about Leshan Giant Buddha, but few know about Leshan Lingyun Temple. But you may not know that there would be no Leshan Giant Buddha without Lingyun Temple!” As it is a holy place of Buddhism, I didn’t take any photos! After visiting Leshan, the next stop is the much-anticipated Mount Emei!

Tourist Reviews:

It takes about two hours to get to Leshan Giant Buddha from Xinanmen Station in Chengdu by taking the special line. However, there are 3 kilometers from the parking lot to the entrance of the scenic spot. Well, I can only call a three-wheeled electric car. The riders are all wearing formal clothes issued by the government. Along the way, they also recommend the Oriental Buddha City. It is really clever, and it also contributes to solving employment.

Although it is called Leshan Giant Buddha, there are actually not only the Buddha statue but also temples like Wuyu Temple in this scenic spot. But I was rushing to Mount Emei in the afternoon, so I only visited the Buddha.

The Buddha is still very majestic, sitting facing the river. Walking along the path around the Buddha from top to bottom, and then from bottom to top, it doesn’t take much time, but it is quite tiring. But it is worth seeing the Buddha from different angles. There are also mysterious stories about the Buddha closing his eyes and crying. Whether it is natural weathering or a magical legend, I believe that this Buddha statue is spiritual. Amitabha Buddha.

The whole scenic spot is actually quite big. If you have enough time, you should spend a whole day visiting and admiring it.

Actually, I decided to come to Leshan at the last minute, because I was here ten years ago. But the photos I took back then were really unbearable to look at.

The scenic spot itself is not that interesting and not that big. If there are not many people, two hours is enough to see everything. However, when you walk down the mountain to the foot of the Buddha, the road is narrow, and if there are too many people, it is very slow to walk. Plus, many people are afraid, so it takes a lot of time.

After seeing the panoramic view of the Buddha, you need to go up the mountain again to leave the scenic spot. This part is a bit tiring. There is nothing else after that.

The place to burn incense before seeing the Buddha is up to you, I won’t say more.

Actually, there are two ways to visit the scenic spot. Most people choose to walk, but you can also take a boat to see the Buddha from afar, which saves time and energy, and the view is better. You can also see a reclining Buddha, which you can’t see if you walk.

You can choose one of the two options, each has its own advantages, but there is no need to see both.
