Actually, this “Erlian” does not refer to the troop organization, but the Chinese translation of the Mongolian word “Eren” in “Eren Nuoer Lake,” meaning “colorful.” “Haote” means “city.” Together, “Erlianhot” means “colorful city.”

Since then, through self-driving on the Inner Mongolian “Ice and Snow Road,” the summer “Northern Frontier Road,” and the winter “Ice and Snow Road,” a total distance of over 10,000 kilometers, all nine cities, three leagues, and two planned single-column cities, as well as major banners and counties in Inner Mongolia, have been completed.
4. Erlianhot Self-driving Itinerary
Erlianhot is probably the smallest administrative region in Inner Mongolia, with a built-up area of only 18 square kilometers. It has no street offices and only one banner and eight communities.
However, its status is very high, and it is a planned single-column city in Inner Mongolia, just like Manzhouli.
Erlianhot, although a small city, is full of humor.
First of all, no matter whether you come to Erlianhot from the air or the ground, the first impression you get is a pair of giant dinosaurs kissing! Moreover, the city is full of dinosaur figures, and the surprise is endless upon arrival. You see dinosaurs and take pictures, dinosaurs you’ve never seen before, whether they are sculptures or murals.
Secondly, the architectural style of Erlianhot is neither like Manzhouli, with its full Russian style, nor like its neighboring border country, Mongolia, which copies the style. Instead, it combines Chinese, Russian, and Mongolian features, and it looks very individual.
Strolling around the streets of Manzhouli, Russian beauties constantly come into view and are pleasing to the eye. But on the streets of Erlianhot, all the “tough guys” make your nose sour.
The Mongolian Jeeps on the street, which look tough, are not used for climbing mountains or wading in deep water. Instead, they are burdened with scars in the beautiful city of Erlianhot, reluctantly acting as farm vehicles, driving around with only the horn not making a sound, but with the whole body rattling…
The cityscape of China Erlianhot – a pair of dinosaurs kissing. The base of the dragons is “China Erlianhot” in Chinese and English.
If you come from the air, you will see the iconic city landmark of Erlianhot Airport Avenue: a pair of kissing dinosaurs.
Coming from the S101 Provincial Highway on land, outside the “gate” of Erlianhot city, there is a huge cartoon dinosaur welcoming you (we used light painting to outline the lines of this cartoon dinosaur).
The urban area of Erlianhot is like a miniature landscape, very clean and tidy.
As a planned single-column city in Inner Mongolia, the urban buildings in Erlianhot may not be as high-end as those in Manzhouli, but the mix of Chinese, Russian, and Mongolian styles makes it quite novel.
On the streets of Erlianhot, beautiful city taxis and Mongolian tough Jeeps are mixed. The green light turns on, the taxis quietly glide away, while the Jeeps are still refueling “tut-tut-tut…”
On the streets of Erlianhot, Mongolian “tough guys” Jeeps are driving around with mixed passengers and goods, becoming a unique sight in Erlianhot.
On the streets of Erlianhot, Mongolian “tough guys” Jeeps are everywhere. Take a closer look, none of the Jeeps are without scars.
Our car is parked on the side of the road to buy something. A Mongolian Jeep dashed from the left to the right sidewalk, wow! The hood, roof, and rear are all carrying tires, which is quite comedic.
The Mongolian brother driving the car is very muscular, quite a sight. What is he looking at? Look down…
Two big guys put a huge cardboard box on the roof of the car, without using any ropes or bindings…
The car wobbles its head, carrying the big box and preparing to hit the road…
When their car turned its head and passed by us, we caught a glimpse of the car’s driver’s seat being piled with stuff! How cramped they are! How do you look at this car? If you encounter an emergency brake, will the tires and cardboard boxes on the car remain stable? It feels like they’re playing China’s juggling act!
After talking about the urban area, let’s take a look at the suburbs. This is the ancient Obo in Erlianhot, called Eren Obo. It is considered a small attraction in Erlianhot.
Spacious, desolate, and mysterious are the biggest characteristics of this Obo.
“Erlianhot” was originally called “Eren,” which is taken from the name of “Eren Dabusan Nuoer” (currently translated as Erlianhot Salt Lake) on the outskirts of the city.
“Eren” means the grassland herders’ beautiful imagination of the desert Gobi scenery, with the meaning of a mirage.
Swan Lake Wetland Park
Not far from Eren Obo, on the way from Erlianhot city to the National Dinosaur Geological Park, this free Swan Lake Wetland Park is an oasis in the Gobi Desert of the Erlianhot Basin, with unique characteristics.
Swan Lake Wetland Park
The small square outside the gate of Swan Lake Wetland Park, the color configuration of the ground and the various sculptures around the gate are perfectly matched. Coupled with the strange sky, the whole picture is beautiful!
Swan Lake Wetland Park
Erlianhot Swan Lake Wetland Park attracts bird lovers from all over the country every year because it is home to various bird species, especially photography enthusiasts who flock to it.
Erlianhot Swan Lake Wetland Park is only a few kilometers from the city.
In Erlianhot Swan Lake Wetland Park, various birds flock to Swan Lake and the surrounding wetlands, making it a great place for birdwatching and photography.
