1、 The Origin of Mount Wutai
Mount Wutai is located in Shanxi Province, situated on the “Roof of North China”, with a maximum elevation of 3061 meters. The peaks are continuous, the mountains are intertwined, shaped like a tiger crouching, and the momentum is like a dragon coiling. As part of the Taihang Mountains, it runs northeast-southwest, almost parallel to Mount Heng, one of the Five Great Mountains.
Between Mount Wutai and Mount Heng, a part of the fault-like low-lying uplift formed, which is the famous Pingxingguan Pass. Together with Zijin Pass to the east and Yanmen Pass to the west, they firmly guarded the peace of the capital.
The top of the mountain is a flat and wide alpine meadow, like a piled-up earth platform. There are five platforms, East, West, South, North, and Central, hence the name Mount Wutai. It is also known as “Qingliang Mountain”.
2、 Chaotai
There are two ways to worship at Mount Wutai. One is to directly climb the Daishuluo Peak to worship the Five Directions Manjusri, called Xiao Chaotai; the other is to climb the five peaks of East, South, West, North, and Central in turn to deeply worship the Five Directions Manjusri, called Da Chaotai. Xiao Chaotai is easy, Da Chaotai is rare!
Da Chaotai is divided into clockwise Chaotai and counterclockwise Chaotai. Clockwise is to start from the Fo Mu Dong and finish the five platforms. Counterclockwise is to start from the East Platform and finish the five platforms.
* It is said: Completing the five platforms in one Da Chaotai is equivalent to 500 years of practice.
3、 East Platform
The highest peak of the East Platform is the Wanghai Peak, with an elevation of 2795 meters. It is famous for its “sea of clouds and sunrise”. Standing on the top of the platform, you can see clouds and mist swirling among the mountains, revealing a few mountain peaks, the scenery is like a boat floating on the sea.
4、 South Platform
The Creator has been generous to the South Platform. The highest peak, Jinxiu Peak, has an elevation of 2485 meters, with rich plant resources. Every year, it is the first to welcome spring and the last to enter winter.
Every April, when the other four platforms are still covered in snow and ice, the South Platform is already bursting with flowers, so it is also called Xianhua Tai, the most popular platform among hikers.
5、 Central Platform
The Cuiyan Peak of the Central Platform has an elevation of 2894 meters, second only to the North Platform. Looking north, you can see the area of Fanzhi and Daixian County. Looking east, you can see the Yizhong Plain in Hebei Province. Looking down, you can observe the grand temple group of Taihuai Town, it is like enjoying bonsai art, full of charm.
6、 West Platform
The highest peak of the West Platform is the Guanyue Peak, with an elevation of 2773 meters. It is not the highest among the five platforms, but it is the most beautiful place for the setting sun and the bright moon. The clouds are as bright as smoke, the red sun slowly sinks into the mountain peaks, this sunset, watching once, is enough to reminisce for many years.
7、 North Platform
The Yedou Peak of the North Platform has an elevation of 3061.1 meters, the highest point of Mount Wutai and the highest peak in North China, hence the name “Roof of North China”.
There is a saying among the people, “Lying on the top of the North Platform, reaching out to touch the stars”, which shows its height. Standing on the top of the platform and looking north, you can see the peaks of the North Mount Heng mountain range, one after another, in the boundless expanse.
